Converting sprocket to inch-pitch

Posted on
  • Hello

does anyone have experience of converting a sprocket to inch-pitch. This thread is enough to make me think it can be done. But I've never ground (? grinded? grund?) anything in my life so any experience that can be offered before I just try it and cock it up would be appreciated.

    Thanks a lot

  • Do you have an old 1" pitch chain then?

  • To answer your question - no.

    **** start reminiscing ****
I used to have a 1" sprocket, chain which I ordered online and Highpath Engineering made me up a 1" chain ring. It was fixed. Ended up giving the whole lot away which I regret a little bit. Several years later (last week), it occurred to me that I could do it singlespeed on my cassette hub if I could grind down a sprocket. That would be the cheapest stage so I'm going to do that bit first before working out the rest.
    **** end reminiscing ****

edit: just had quick earch - the Diamond inch-pitch chain was the one I got but they are about 5x more expensive now.
