  • Are they going to put a cap on the number of teams in the wildcard tourney?

  • Let's do this!

    Team list updated.....

    UPDATE
Official dates for the tourney: 24-26th of June.
We are working on having a wildcard tourney for those that can't/couldn't/didn't qualify. It'll be announced soon.

Alright people, 3-2-1 Poloooooooo (in Barcelona!)

    TEAMS
    UK 10
    Germany 8
    France 8
    Italy 7
    Spain 5
    Switzerland 5
    Benelux 3
    Austria 1
    Hungary 1
    Denmark 1
    Ireland 1
    Poland 1
    Portugal 1

*Wildcard tourney not confirmed yet. If we can't do one, We'll be allocating more spots, if we do, then this list is final and all spots will be decided there.

(from a post on LOBP just now)

  • awesome! So glad it didnt go down to 8.

  • Is now the time to mention that London has promised one of the spots to the league winners?

  • Only if it was done by city allocation IIRC

  • That was dependent on spots distribution (if we got spots for cities). No longer an issue (and the league winners will get a spot anyway).

  • Ok, so here are some thoughts from Manchester:

I'd like to prosose that LDN have 6 - and RoUK have 4

Us and CBR could jointly organise a dual tournament - the most important event being for all non-LDN/rest of UK teams that are intent on qualifying for the Euros. In my view, this may only be 10-20 teams in reality and thus, quite a small tourney.

To support this we hold another event (running over the same weekend/inbetween the Euro Qualification rounds) - to attract focus/audience participation for the importance of the Euros/Worlds, to give an opportunity for others to continue to play good standard tourney play, to give LDN summat to do (they can ref the Euros Qualys whilst they're there)...

    So in summary:

RoUK Euro Qualification Tournament for the remaining UK slots - only non-LDN UK teams that can travel to Barcelona can enter. Maybe one day if entries are low/two if higheer than expected.
Intercity Open - all non-RoUK Euro teams can enter including LDN. Two day tourney similar to the recent one.
A MCR/CBR joint production - venue: CBR Indoor. Good group of non-LDN people that can get shit done.

Advantages: brings the whole UK scene together/draws attention to the Euros - which will enhance future tournaments and teams - another excuse for a tourney! Stops teams entering for the Euro Qualys just for a tourney when they know thay can't go to Spain.

  • Honestly, I think a tourney in CBR (or somewhere else capable) for all the spots = most fair. Anything else is gerrymandering.

  • This (how the spots get allocated) needs to get sorted asap.

Can we restrict the constituency to only players whose teams registered an interest in going to Euros?

  • I'm on it, chill guys/gals. Team list of "potential" UK Euro teams (who had their name down, etc) and an email out to the registrars (pointing to this thread) coming shortly.

I imagine a big tourney would be fairest, I also don't mind the idea of a split, but think it's best if everyone involved gets a look in/chance to have input first?

  • Jono, if we're going to use the forum as a discussion space, send me the names of everyone who will have a voice (be it players, captains, scene reps, whatever) and I'll start a private thread that only those people can view.

I've seen enough people post things like "I'm not planning to go, but...." to realize this could get messy.

    +1

  • Well done to the following UK scenes for filling that form in, good job.

Edinburgh, 4 teams, 1 potential Euro team.
Sheffield, 2 teams, 1 potential Euro team.
London, 18+ teams, 15 potential Euro teams.
Cambridge, 3 teams, 2 potential Euro teams.
Manchester, 2 teams, 2 potential Euro teams.
Birmingham, 2 teams, 2 potential Euro teams.

London are huge and Cosmic/Apples/BAD/Malice did the job for us in tourney experience/wins. London also pulled in the most weight/slots by size and age of polo scene. Cambridge, Manchester and Edinburgh were roughly equal on players and scene experience. Manchester had better tourney results thanks to Netto, Cambridge not far behind (Fenboy 3). Birmingham and Sheffield brought up the rear, but established the UK as having more cities than other countries, good job.

The actual formula/decision making is with Alejandro, but apparently most of the data was sound. Obviously some scenes missed out by not filling in the form, the late comers didn't really affect us thankfully.

I'm no closer to thinking up a fair way of sharing things out, I'm leaning more and more towards "mega tourney", although the date could be tricky for everyone. London could do a nice thing and give away a third of the slots to encourage the rest of the UK scenes. Just thinking out loud...

I'm sending an email to the registrars now to join in this discussion. Also, if your city failed to fill in the form, boo.

Anyone got any bright ideas (like Chan's, etc)?

It's gonna be difficult to "close the discussion" unless each of the six scenes above nominates two people (or something) and their usernames can be identified... I don't have that kind of info, etc. Can't we just avoid any "this would be better for me" and have a civil chat? Probably not...

  • By a third, do you mean 3 or 4 slots?

  • LDN, have you REALLY got 15 potential euro teams?

  • give us a list of the 15...

  • Can't we just avoid any "this would be better for me" and have a civil chat? Probably not...

I think we can, no need for a private thread etc...

  • take the top10 ten from the Cambridge tourney, job done ;)

  • give us a list of the 15...

Here are the 18 London League teams (not including the following "possibly interested in finding a team" players: Lebowski, Iain, Ali, Erin, Nik, Rob, etc" ). Don't forget scene size/age/tourney wins counted towards number of slots too.

    BAD
    La Schmoove
    Degeneration
    Sick Zombie
    Dogma or Pie
    Pesky Skids
    Psyclone
    Jak
    Aram/Roxy/Jack
    Spring Break
    Cosmic
    Nice Touch
    Dinosaurs
    Los Conos
    Rusty Rims
    Big Bush Bears
    JAH
    Heythrop

London has a huge scene and although I'm mindful that we don't dismiss the rest of the UK, I also don't want any London teams to miss out because we were over generous, etc.

  • I had been going through the different forums seeing who was all playing. Cool to see the state of UK polo.

    Tigeruppercut
    Glowbike
We will happily represent Edinburgh and welcome the civil chat. Is there any chance of more slots given the amount of teams we have?

  • By a third, do you mean 3 or 4 slots?

I think 3 slots is fair, I can see the argument for more though, but I've always been of the "send the best to the Euros" mentality. Obviously I'm biased.

You currently have part of the UK allocation of 10 slots, everything else said here is opinion on how we divide them up.

Some reckon using a split where the London teams fight for their allocation and the Rest of the UK fight for their allocation is best.
Some say one big tourney to decide all 10 is best.
Some say two tourneys to decide all 10 would be better as you may not be able to make the one big tourney, etc.

  • Im with you Jono.
Give the roe 3 slots, let them sort out who goes and how.
London can sort something out at newington.... soon.

Let's call it 30% or, if you prefer, three-tenths of the available slots.

  • I really think this needs to go private with a a couple of days discussion between nominated members from each season, and then come back to the registered players for a vote.

  • I don't want to be one of the nominated people. I am scared of getting bullied by Chan.
