Stop watch is mine/bhm bike polo's. I'm going to do some 'official' reffing from now on to encourage a better play and tourney prep. So if you foot down, pull a front wheel, smash into someone i'll be watching.

I will stop whacking mallets when people aren't on the ball (wasn't aware this was not allowed)
-
• #2180
I thought mallet hacking was legal. It is isn't it?
-
• #2181
To clarify
You can only 'hack' people who are on the ball.
Hacking is frowned upon, hooking is allowed. Excessive hacking can lead to you being penalised.
You can only 'hack' a goalies mallet if your team are in possession (based on cambridge rules). -

is there a rule set, set in stone, or is it like playing Black jack around other peoples gaffs?
So varied.

It changes at different tournaments - worth checking at each one if you're a hacker.
Defining hacking is hard, and I've never seen anyone actually get penalised for 'excessive' hacking. However, like Fin says, it's frowned upon and people will heckle/shout at you if you do it a lot. Also, it gets on your opponents nerves, so you'll find they start playing harder against you.
I quite like the Cambridge rule, but it's sometimes hard to know if your team is in possession or not, and how are you supposed to punish rule breakers? Tap-out is hard to instruct people to do, and probably wouldn't work. Sin-bin, too excessive.
Everyone in Brum is okay by my reckoning. Si stretches to the limit sometimes, but I don't think he'd get punished at a tournament.

I'm not having a go.
Your defensive play in particular has come on leaps and bounds, and the way you play is a similar level of commitment to players in London etc. You're clean by Spanish standards, and it's something everyone either needs to learn to do, or learn to deal with.
It's just in Birmingham you stand out a bit because a lot of people aren't as physical. Don't sweat it.

It certainly can, and should.

OK everyone.
I'm writting up a little article for Fused Magazine at the minute about bike polo in the second city.
Hopefully it will get the word about and we might get a bit more support/players.
The article - background about Hard Court Bike Polo, How to play, Birmingham Polo.
What we need...
1) Lots of you
2) Some nice photos (void & pastry & anyone else interested) -

Some nice photos (void & pastry & anyone else interested)
already on it, we talked remember, we can use the lovely sunny ones from last June that I gave to Dan & are on his blog plus some new ones pretty soon.
What's the deadline?
-
• #2196
No deadline, I'd like to use recent photos, more representative of bhm polo community.
I think some evening and day shots would be good too. -
• #2197
The colours were really nice on Void's summer ones. Leaves on the trees too. More tempting to people?
Pastry has some good ones from Calthorpe in the dark and cold.

• #2198
See what we can get on the next few Weds and Sun sessions, hopefully it'll be dry

You what?! My first two tournaments i've been heckled....abused...and personally slagged off by other female players because i'm too physical even though I let them set the bench mark before matching it. I barely lent a shoulder on anyone in either tournament, no bar bashing no mallet rutting to make note of...
We play alot rougher in Brum than what i've seen so far from any London types. I like it. -
