Hammersmith Gyratory survey

  • This off of the LCC Hammersmith & Fulham mailing list:

    hi

I have constructed a survey to ask cyclists using the E-W route through Hammersmith how they get through at the moment, and what delays they face.

    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JY7C966

Barclays Cycle Superhighways are new cycle routes into central London from outer London. Transport for London says they will provide cyclists with safer, faster and more direct journeys into the city.

CSH9 will run from Hounslow to Hyde Park. At the moment it is in the preliminary design stage. It could run along the A315 Kensington High street or the A4 Cromwell rd, but the A315 seems to be preferred.

There are questions as to how the route will get through or by the Hammersmith Gyratory. [Hammersmith Broadway actually refers to a small section on the north side of the gyratory, the original high street. Other roads that make up the gyratory are Hammersmith rd, Butterwick, Talgarth rd and Queen Caroline st.]

On the 17 March there will be a meeting with Transport for London including repesentatives of the London Cycling Campaign and borough officials. This will look at the route options for the CSH9 to negotiate the Hammersmith gyratory, as well as other parts of the route.

If you cycle regularly on an E-W, W-E route through Hammersmith it would be valuable to bring your experience and opinion to this meeting.

Please answer as soon as possible, preferably by this weekend, and definitely before March 17th 2011

So yeah... if you ride through there, please spare a few minutes to give them some data.

  • I live there. Survey done and dusted.

  • Good stuff. This is Important with a capital 'I'. Survey done.

  • yep good post.

    survey done.

  • Thanks for the link, survey done.

  • Done.

I'd be interested to see what other people's solutions are to the area.
I favour making the gyratory 2 way, closing Queen Caroline St between Hammersmith Bridge Rd and King St, making Beadon Rd/Glenthorne Rd two-way and making King St two-way and continue it through all the way to Hammersmith Rd for bikes. And given that they have made it an option, make King St bus and bike only. Give King St/Hammersmith Rd priority over other roads.

it's all me me me with you Schick

  • I'd like them to have a car-free cycle lane from Chiswick roundabout all the way down the Cromwell Road and up to Hyde Park Corner though Knightsbridge. Going Chiswick > Hammersmith > High Ken > HPC is laborious and full of traffic lights.

  • i think it needs a few jumps

  • And a Polo court for the 'crusties'

  • Free cake for all cyclists and a battery of car-sensing fully automatic 20mm cannons to keep drivers wary.. or something.

  • Done.

I think we should rename King Street into Niall Street.

    I agree with

  • and a pub where everyone knows your name..

  • Done - quite happy it's being looked at as it can be carnage sometimes!

  • Crap, too drunk to comprehend. I've been to Hammersmith, though.

  • Done!

  • What O S said above. Not just for the Westies

  • Done. It's in my daily commute to fulham. Argh really dislike riding in the fulham and kings road area, wish they could sort that out. Drivers always seem to be rite c***s in that area.
