Campagnolo chains

  • Hi, so I am starting my first ever Campag build. Got most of the parts including drivetrain - Comp triple with Veloce 10 rear and Centaur levers. Not exactly single speed I know but then I am an OAP and go up hills slowly ( including Alps ). Campag instructions say use Campag chain as others will damage sprockets. I am guessing this is marketing BS but will I get better shift quality with a Campag chain vs others?

  • Hi, you can use the KMS chains, they are cheaper and really good. Work fine on campag and come in gold too!

  • I have used two or three different chains on campag 10 speed. It is marginal but the shift is better with a campag chain. Where I really noticed the difference though was longevity, the campag lasted much longer.

  • I have used Campag, but use KMC now. Not much difference in the shifting, if anything KMC is slightly better, but they are a lot cheaper (I use the SL model) they seem to last longer and cost a lot less. I wouldn't go back to Campag.

  • I find any chain really, even shimano and sram one seemed to work.

  • Shimano 10 speed works very well and has the advantage of a simple connecting pin.

  • I had a KMC chain on my campag 10 speed setup and it sucked compared to the Campag chain I have now.

The only thing I would suggest is to use a KMC quick link to connect it instead of the expensive Campag connecting system.
