  • when did OCW close?
thats pretty sad- but the alleykitten scene there is stronger than ever, which is good.

  • About 3 weeks ago. Perhaps Dan is planning to combine alleycatting with recycling and selling bikes; every check-point is a new task i.e. remove siezed post, change rusty cables, new tubes, clean and then the final checkpoint is up Shotover hill and you have to make it there on the thing! Ha ha. But really I think all the emphasis is on training mechanics...which is good I guess as there are more and more bikes on the streets so we needs more hands to fix-em. A lot of blood n sweat went into that place and it was a really special place. I wish them all the best and I reckon they will still be able to rustle up fun and classic reconditioned bikes;

  • man, that's a real blow....
They were getting well into the community aspect when I last saw Dan, so I;m sure that'll continue and be a force for good.

  • .

  • We ordered a desk from them recently (probably a couple of months away yet). Didn't know they do bikes - could have saved on delivery!

  • I've actually ordered a couple of (non-cycling related) items from Made.com in the past. They take a VERY long time to deliver, but that's a large part of the reason their stuff is so cheap.

I got a rather beautiful floor lamp for about £40 and a couple of massive "fat boy" style bean bags for £60 each. Massive savings on all of them and the product is excellent quality. If you're able to wait for delivery, it's worth it.

I'm not saying their bikes will be suitable for anyone on this forum (I'm certainly not getting one) but I've recommended them to a couple of cycle-shy friends, saying it'll be a solid (possibly too solid?!) product for a bargain price.

If anyone here gets one, I'll be interested to hear how it works out...

  • I stopped reading after I saw this picture.

That looks like so much fun.

  • Drop the bars, though.

    *Heres a Gazelle 66 Degrees

    Reduced to £386

  • Those Gazelle are taking over Amsterdam, pretty good to ride and doesn't shimmer much, a massive improvement over the classic steel one which have a horrible shimmer at speed (15+mph down a hill in Tooting).

  • Fixed Gear of couse

  • I'm sorry?

    Fixed Gear of couse

  • Came across this Made.com website that has £600 "apparently" single speed for £200. Might be of interest to some but I have a feeling it will be a bit of a repeat of the "Create" bikes fiasco. As far as I can tell it's a groupon style site where loads of people buy and hence there is a one off big discount (plus 6 weeks delivery time).

P.S. Yes did do my research before posting:

    Any thoughts?

  • You did your research, it should told you what to do: avoid like the plague.

they always claim it cost that much because for a decent bike of similar appearance you'd need to pay that much.

Although the frame look slightly different, search for "Create" or "unipack" to get the full story of similar quality/priced unnamed bicycle.

  • good ninja edit there.
