  • Big NO to coffee... What a wack idea.

Sell stuff. Don't try to be a cafe.

    ALSO
How about a seriously new approach to repairs? Repair while u wait or not at all? Charge by the minute so that it's cheap to do quick stuff? Have a special DIY workshop zone, with basic tools and a stand available?

    This.
Pisses me off going to bike shops and the people being "busy" taking coffee.
    Starbucks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Also, DIY corner is a must.
I've always had Bicycle Magic as my favorite bike shop, when it comes to treatment. Never had a problem there and everyone's super friendly.
Don't fuck that up Simon, please.

  • Are those inflatable?

    400psi for max stiffness

Shudder. I have paranoia that my carbon bits will snap in a crash.

Imagine what it'd be like if you were worried you bars could blow your hands off.

  • One of the employees grabs your bike a does a trackstand for the duration of your shop.

This sounds like Jimbilly every time I roll up to BC on my Roberts...

Excited about this... You should deffo be knocking up a cheap Pomp polo build: Risers, short stem, dual brake lever, V-brakes, 48h rims, big tyres...

    Free booze, I'm in...

  • I run coaster brake on a carbon chainstay, so I'm not the one to ask.

  • Your name spells 'danger', Kris.

  • custom wheel builds with a 2 day turnaround? Seriously tempted by some planet x carbon rims...

  • Great news!
Like Oliver i work on Whitechapel Rd, too easy.

  • I'm not sure pompetamine's would be popular given that most polo players want V brake mounts longer dropouts.

Wicksie, I wasnt talking about polo when I mentioned the Pompetamine, I just like that style of bike, and was close to buying one in the winter, fat tyres etc would have been handsome in the ice and snow, but as it wasnt readily available, I didnt buy one -

I dont have the co-ordination to play polo, but I like the look of that sort of style of bike for general riding, seems good value and a tough bike.

  • And, backpacks are the new messenger bags, you heard it here first.

Ha, I have been rocking backpacks since 1991. I am way cool.

  • Internet beating prices mixed with the feel good factor of supporting a local shop.

Lots of test bikes you can hire for the day/weekend.

Bicycle maintenance/ wheel building classes in the evenings. If you teach someone to build wheels, they'll be in every month for new hubs, rims, spokes.....

Jukebox. so you can listen to what you want while browsing.

Are there any 44cm 3ttt 2x2 palma bars left in your warehouse?

  • And old logo stealth TT forks.

  • Another +1 to a decent selection of well priced spokes over here.

    #seriousface

  • +1 for the NOS 3ttt stuff, plus a job for me so I can get it at a staff discount.

2 days a week suit you?

  • dia compe gran compe hubs for what you sell them online. you will sell many of those. Last i checked they were like £55 for a set.
plus the other things mentioned for custom wheel builds.

  • Add my vote for carbon rims/wheels with removable stickers rather than decals under the lacquer.

  • This:

One or two of your plastic road bikes. There's a real lack of roadie bikes in east London.

I showed a pal who is fairly new to road biking the Planet X website the other day, he's all over your crabon jobs like a rash... but he's a big boy and would never buy without a test ride.

I am quite excited* by the fact that your new shop will be appox two minutes walk from my studio.

Feel free to pop by for coffee/beer/game of babyfoot, neighbour!

    *& worried about bank balance

  • oh, and some of this gear wouldn't go amiss:

    http://www.tudorsports.co.uk/

  • Bring some of your sale items like tubs please lots of cheap tubs as there bloody expensive!
Keep some bits on the BOGOF offer like tyres. thats a sure winner.

  • More...be friendly to newbies, we all have to start somewhere! Don't ignore a customer because he's a bit 'lost', like the wanker at Cycle Surgery who couldn't even be arsed to finish his personal phone conversation to help me Grrrrrrr!!!!!

The DIY or while u wait service ideas are good, buy something new and have it fitted there and then!

  • Bring some of your sale items like tubs please lots of cheap tubs as there bloody expensive!

    +1

  • +123 on the tools, basic or otherwise - 3 shops in Central London and not one of them had a bog standard plastic/ rubber handled 32mm headset spanner

  • Them garibaldi's are dead fly biscuits, chocolate hobnobs FTW

  • Anything & everthing road. No MTB kit (SPD'S AN EXCEPTION)
Oh yeah and don't sell anything that them hipsters buy like stupid pink velocity rims and flat bar fixed bikes. After all your Planet X and if ya start selling that stuff ya good repution is finished.
Oh yeah all bikes have to have drops handle bars.

  • What bikepusher said... Tudor Sports clothing! Cheap and ace.

  • All decent bike shops in Yorkshire have a kettle in the back and offer regular customers a brew and never charge.

    Tis true..
