Monentarily, whilst renewing a donors star, between the point when the star expires and PayPal has confirmed the star should be given again... users are moved into the default usergroup, which is the registered users one.
Should they not renew, then within an hour they would be moved to another usergroup depending on # of posts, time since registering, etc.
You happen to have been online during the donor star renewal, so you saw how it works.

Newbie fixed gear rider requiring reading skills as well as useful info on getting my new bike set up and running. Just hope I dont have to start again as I'm useless remembering usernames and passwords
