I know it's not London, but there's loads on the A14 between Ipswich and Bury...big-ass digital road signs (with a much much smaller sign stuck on the post underneath saying "sign not in use". I find this amusing every time I see it.

Not sure how your degree show will be judged, but given the likeness your strategy might be a bit risky?
My only *strategy * is to create good work. I've never had any sneaky intention of pulling the wool over peoples eyes, so i'm thankful for your knowledge.
I guess after several crits from a few tutors that never mentioned anything about previous work on the subject, i assumed i was 'safe'.I vaguely recall other artists working with the concept of "signs without meaning". I'll post if I can remember the names.
Please do

Thank you. Funny enough people have made the same parallel to Schulz before.

Love this project.
Some may have undertaken similar projects but you have a wonderful back story to it and I'm sure it will be nothing other than unique. Best of luck.

Hi Jambon,
I saw a blank sign out on a ride today, on the A13 just east of All Saints DLR, at the next junction.
It has a poster on googlemaps, but it's empty now. Next to a vacant/boarded up pub too!

There is one on Clements Rd, SE16. Not so much a blank sign as an empty frame on a brick wall.

Thanks very much heavisides and wiganwill, I'll be sure to check them out.
After two days of constant street trawling I only found one big blank billboard (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=aldgate&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Aldgate,+Greater+London,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.514805,-0.075209&spn=0.006944,0.021136&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.514874,-0.075051&panoid=xKNGAd-Vk0VCVFi1oSAZtQ&cbp=12,78.21,,0,-5.78),
so any tip offs really are helpful. Also I thought I'd visit shoreditch for the first time as i've heard so many things about it from here. -

You know who did that?

Borut Krajnc is another who has photographed blank billboards.
There's a piece about his work in the January BJP. -

You need to put a spin on it.
How about photographing blank billboards and then putting up the images on empty billboards?*- I haz MA

My major project last semester was photographing temporary things - signs, and notices mostly - that were supposed to be temporary but ended up being more permanent.
I was going to do big prints and stick them up like temporary signs themselves and rephotograph them. I ended up going for a cheaper method of presentation but kinda wish I had done the original idea now. - I haz MA

I always though those signs (often big vinyl banners) that have the words "temporary sign" on them, were intended to be permanent and the wording is just to get around council byelaws / planning permission....or summink like that.
