whatever people said
i went on a newcastle critical mass, and yes, all it did was get every motorist really pissed off with cyclists.

Ride well and fast and you wont find any bother, you'll also beat the driver in traffic. I feel critical masses give us a bad name.

Haha, I just don't have any gripes with riding in the city - I don't feel like I need a voice about it. I'd also say that shit cyclists piss me off as much as shit drivers and I'm pretty sure I can't think of a single cyclist that I know who cycles without breaking the law and I can see how that aggravates drivers (that's not an excuse though, obviously).
And what does riding in a big group and blocking the road achieve? Seems to wind up drivers, hold up traffic and increase tension between the two groups. I also can't even see what they are trying to achieve. -

im with you andy. i have ridden in cities for over ten years and never felt that i am oppressed, under mined or generally shat upon. for the most part, i am smug about being able to get where im going quickly and without petrol. what is there to be pissed off about?
saying that, the latino twat with the blood smattered golf should have his baws put in a vice and be made to tighten the fucker himself.

by voice i mean political voice .. its the only weapon you have as a cyclist to challenge the powers that be ...
I agree with all of you that it's totally counter-productive to meet up on a regular basis and piss off the public just to play at 2 wheeled anarchist ... that's just pointless
....you'll need it when it becomes illegal to cycle on A-roads, to ride without lights and helmet at all times, to have insurance, to register and pay taxes for your bike etc etc .... but if you can co-ordinate a critical mass in every major UK city at the same time, then comrade, you have some serious bargaining poweri remember mountain biking in Marin County (birthplace of mountain biking .. apparently) where trails were one way only, and cops with radar guns were handing out speeding tickets ... and that's off-road ... but that was california .. i guess in texas they'd just shoot you

i agree with fone on this, i think it does give cyclists a bad name....
theres a movie on critical masses in america called 'you never bike alone', pretty interesting.....
Fuck's sake Phil, very nearly a tea all over keyboard moment, LOL.
Proper gut wrenching video though.
But to be fair, I'm really not into the whole critical mass thing because it seems to attract too many self righteous cyclists and just fuels motorist/cyclist tensions due to obstruction of traffic.
