Brazil is trying to clean itself up for the when it hosts the world cup, remember. So hopefully they won't take this negative press lightly.
But unless media organizations around the world show this and discuss this therefore shaming the authorities, it will be just swept under the carpet. There was a similar occurence in Egypt but they were pedestrians and the van/lorry thing was going a lot quicker than our sociopathic friend in Brazil.

Wow, just fucking insane, this prick needs to be fucking killed, really, you have children at critical mass, there are fucking children there and he could do this, fucking kill the cunt, the world simply doesn't need nor should tolerate having problems like this, put him in a fucking noose.
I feel terrible for the people involved and the man's son, what a fucking uniquley awful thing to do to your own son.
I'd pull the fucking lever myself.

What's the best quality video people have seen of this? The least shaky and highest resolution, but also one that shows the crash without lots of other scenes beforehand?
Best quality. Shakiness is part if the shot although you can dampen it in post.

@jayloo......ligeirinho=fast is the name!

Horrific - hope the victims recover & the perpetrator gets properly punished.

That actually made me feel sick. Put my minor crash last week into perspective. Horrid.

Beyond grim. I could only watch a little bit of one of the videos.
It's incredible that no one was killed.
I hope he gets done for multiple attempted manslaughter. -

I can just imagine his defence sticking. That the cyclists are being called protesters more often than just cyclists, as if being on a bike is an act of provocation itself.

They were protesting in a way, as they were on a Critical Mass ride. But the word protester is not a dirty one.

Not wanting to play devils advocate here, but if he is minted and Brazil is as corrupt as we are being led to believe and the driver does escape prison and ends up with a fine (tactfully placed back hander) I am fairly sure he will be looking over his shoulder pretty much everywhere he goes for a long time.

holy shit just seen this, very shocking, his defense is paper thin i truly hope he gets punished for what he did. its amazing no one was killed.

I'm not saying it is, but it is a distinction and regardless, many people do see it as a dirty word. Would take a hell of a PR campaign to get him off though

Thanks to the people on here who put me in touch with people out there. Constantly surprised how far LFGSS reaches...
There's a protest march in Brazil to tonight: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/bike-blog/2011/mar/01/diver-brazilian-critical-mass-ride

London Critical Mass was attacked by a driver about a dozen years ago. Going north over Tower Bridge he overtook the whole ride, stopped at the traffic lights then reversed back into us. Luckily he was only going at a fraction of the speed of the Brazillian horror. Several people were knocked down, one woman was pushed onto the pavement with bad grazing and a twisted ankle. The car then shot off towards the city, he was chased by a black cab who called the police and got the number. +1 for the cabbie.
When the injured woman went to the police station, still in state of shock, she was taken into a room for 20 minutes and interrogated about why the cyclists were provoking car drivers. -1 for the plod.
The driver was arrested, he missed two court dates, once because he was on remand for 'more serious' charges. At the third hearing several of us gave evidence and then waited outside to hear that the jury had aquitted the driver. -10 for the legal system.
