In their defence, I ride gatorskins without such troubles.
What's gone thru them in your cases? Nails, glass?

So far I have to say that either my Conti TopContacts are quite effectively puncture-resistant, or I'm just a lucky bugger. I strongly doubt the latter.
That said, they seem like a lot of hard work and they suffer the same problem I've seen from every single Conti tyre I've ever used. The sidewalls are shit.

Twice I replace inner tube i front wheel. First time all pumped up, left for a minute and explodes in my room. The tyre (fresh Maxxis Refuse) even came of the rim. Bemused, I take tube out to find 8 inch gash in it directly opposite valve and throw it away, check tyre and rim and rim tape to find nothing. Figured I must have put it back on lazily and tube was squashed.
Just put another tube in, made sure tyre was on perfectly. Pump it up half, go round tyre again, pump all the way and if explodes right in front of my face. Cue ringing in ears and general shell schock...
Now what the fuck do I do?? Not gonna blindly lose another tube to this, but there's nothing wrong with tyre, rim tape or rim.
Moody Monday morning, would rather miss lectures than get train to central.

I blame Gaddafi.

tube ain't seated properly if it keeps blowing like that.
will be being pinched by the tyre. -

That's what I figured the first time but twice in a row after never happening before just ain't right.

I now inflate tyres whilst wearing ear defenders, just in case.
-
• #784
i get someone else to pump my tyres, just in case.

in fact i'm done with tyres, tubes and punctures.
i'm riding rims only. -

Shit the bed stuff indeed.
Similar thing happened to me, except it wasn’t the middle of the night and it didn’t explode, so maybe not really worth me posting this
-
• #788
I did shit the bed though, but that's another story

3rd time exactly the same, what is this?? I cannot see anything out the norm.

Try a different tyre- take the rear one off and use that for example.
If it still does it then it's probably the rim.
Process of elimination, innit.

• #791
any of these lurking in the tyre?
-

Famous last words - got a stone chipping through the rear on the Ride East on Sunday. Cock.

Oh and try the Conti Hardshells. I found them to be VERY good.
Harshells>Gatorskin>Rubino>Hardcases

Mavic MA + 23 mm Schwalbe Lugano = 30 sec. inner tube change.
Great combination and no levers needed. In your face, Randonneurs! In your face...

Failed a bit on my innertube spares today, however the puncture I got was a hole in tyre, and my Crisp Tenner tyre boot did hold strong to get me 5 miles home once I'd fixed the original tube and pumped it back again. I'm gonna put it towards a new tyre...

Got some michelin speedium 2 folding tyres from CRC on wednesday, never fitted a folding tyre before.after pinching one tube with a lever and not checking the tubes were not trapped under the tyre or the tyres seated properly,i got 3 tubes in the bin, ringing in my ears from 2 very loud exploding tubes and very sore fingers from not using tyre levers when i refitted new tubes.happy days

talcum powder can help getting the tube into place
also use the heel of your hand to push the tyre bead over the rim, not your fingers
yep same here. bought gatorskins, so far i have ridden less than a mile and got two punctures. the annoying thing about that is that the second one came when wheeling it home
