• oh my god:

According to Brazilian news agency Zero Hora, the driver has turned himself in to police and is claiming he acted in “self defence”. His defence is almost as unbelievable as his actions on Friday evening.

"The central bank official, Richard Neis, 47, who ran over dozens of cyclists in the Lower City , on Friday, was presented to the civil police around noon on Monday for questioning. Neis came to call the Bureau of Crimes, Traffic accompanied by two lawyers and escorted by four policemen from the Special Operations Battalion (SOB). To escape the press, who waited in front of the building, he entered the parking lot. According to the lawyer Luis Fernando Coimbra Albino, Neis plead self-defense of himself and his 15 year old son. The driver decided to come forward to say that plowed into the cyclists after feeling threatened by alleged coups against his black Golf."

  • wtf? so to protect his precious black golf he decided to scratch and dent it using cyclists heads limbs and bikes?!?

    Human Life>mechanical box IMO

  • Wac

  • If he's minted (central bank official, arrived with two lawyers and a police escort) it wouldn't surprise me if he gets off with some sort of compromise in return for a wad of cash. Corruption is rife in the Brazilian police force. But we'll see. I hope that's not the outcome.

  • like brazilians say this will end up in pizza. if he's got money nothing can happen to him, and that is why he did it!

  • Brazil is trying to clean itself up for the when it hosts the world cup, remember. So hopefully they won't take this negative press lightly.

  • i don't think that they care, this is such a small thing compared to all the corruption and killing and drug dealing etc. not to metion the teresopolis/petropolis "natural" disaster not long ago, all caused by illegal constructions mostly due to pollitcal favours.
it is negative press all the time if you read the news in portuguese!

  • This is a Volkswagen Golf.

Not exactly a choice of car for the 'minted'.

  • Neis plead self-defense of himself and his 15 year old son.

I wonder what his son is thinking about all of this?

well, it is in Brazil where the majority of people live in slums and even in the streets
In any case we all know that the middle classes are worse than the well off

my husband is brasilian and he is so annoyed by this that asked me to translated this for all the english people i know

where was no police at the scene but what we have seen is an example of barbarie. There was no police because the cyclist didn't communicate the detrain that is the organ that regulates traffic. so there was nobody to control the traffic, some drivers were irritated, but this mistake of the cyclists don't justify the driver's attitude. In the law of the jungle, is the strongest who wins, that is why we have the law. An the traffic law says in article 29 that vehicles with motor are responsible for the security of pedestrians, carriages and bicycles. Then without any policemen in sight the driver decided to use the the survival of the fittest, the law of the jungle and know down everyone on sight. Maybe it was because he was tired, because traffic is slow in the big cities or maybe it is a cultural issue, because the person is the owner and driver of a car, and feels that he is more than a cyclist. I France or in Germany, the drivers are scared of cyclists. if they see a cyclist in front of them they take care and are very aware, avoiding anything altho could go wrong because in any circumstance the driver will be in the wrong and probably will pay for the rest of their life if there was a dead or an injured cyclist. here they still believe in the minimum salary penalty (i don't know how to translate this properly, but they have to pay x minimum salaries which is nothing), or the impunity in traffic crimes that are never considered as a crime in the quick enquiries. In this case if the driver accelerated, seined a group of cyclists, knocking down 20 and hurting a dozen, there is a clear intention of causing injury to someone's lee, it is an obvious case of manslaughter

  • I seldom use my car, I keep it for specific uses, I don't really see it as a viable transport solution in a crowded city. Seeing one used as a weapon on us by the mentally unstable makes me crave the day when the oil has run out and this tyranny of drivers ends. Mass access to motor vehicles has been for less than fifty years, I think they will have guzzled the World's resources within the next ten, fuckin roll on.
My thoughts are with the injured and their families.

    +1

  • I hope it doesn't get on the news here it'll only give the morons ideas.

  • I hope it does get on the news because it might actually shock people into giving a shit.

The motorized transport like all machines, it is a monstrosity if used wrongly, and a life saver if used correctly. Horrible, Horrible things sometimes make the apathetic give a shit.

  • Shocking

  • felt sick after watching. abhorrent.

  • What's the best quality video people have seen of this? The least shaky and highest resolution, but also one that shows the crash without lots of other scenes beforehand?

  • This thread already has been made... twice.

  • They need to throw all the books at this motherfucker
