They were unique, back in the mid 1980s when they were a popular choice for testers. Not only are the pads unlike anything else, and fixed to the arms by an eccentric adjuster which means substituting something more modern needs a bit of ingenuity, but the reach was so short that you pretty much had to have your frame custom built to accept them, and putting a normal 39mm 'short' reach brake in their place sometimes requires filing of the top of the pad adjuster slots on the new brake to get the pad high enough.
