  • Some last minute preparations for my trip to Manchester on Wednesday. If anyone want's to se me get humiliated on the track by the big man himself Graeme Obree you are more then welcome to come the velodrome. We will probably do some 4000m racing on strange homebuilt bikes.

an amazing end to a truly brilliant project. hope it goes well. this really is ace!

goddamn I LIEK that, looks comfy too!
what are the clips? look easy to get in and out of with normal shoes. oh and rear rim?

Thanks, yes it very comfortable and surprisingly quick. The clips are leathered MKS I had laying around and I removed the tops, shortened and rounded them off for easy access.

The rear wheel is a Hi-flange Suzue Pro Max track hub to black non machined mavic 30mm aero rim with Specialized enduro tire.

  • White for me.

Awesome room set up as well.

Think I'll play but 'the rules' and keep the black until 19/03 when Milan-San Remo is run and then switch to white.

how is that an end, and not a beginning?..

  • at macgee; no foot retention?

  • Birthday present to a girlfriend of mine. Shitty photo, can't really see a nice subtle metallic in the paint.

Had to give it to her yesterday, so still have to do some minor tweaks like getting the chaincover on, (another) new set of decals, tire logo allignment and saddle/bar position.
Might place the rearlight on the fender later too.
Although I'd do some things different next time, I'm pretty pleased.

build homage to legendary bike. ride bike alongside legend. journey complete.

  • Bjorn, I like your Barcelona Chair! Bike's very sweet too :-)

    Very nice

  • Tenderloin

Bike looks sick but how do you find riding in Brighton with no front brake, do you ride daily? Also what gearing are you running on this?

Yeah daily to uni and have started to go to the preston park track thing at night.,# I find it a little scary, but have now found the best route down from my house least steep hills and t-junction/crossroads. The new fork is drilled for a brake, so in time will put one on.

48-15, 48-13 was too hard to get to my house at the top of a very big hill!

@Jambon Yeah, that Syncros is in my watched items, just don't have the pea until I sell some forks/headset/stems. May have to wait til next term (student loan). Pretty sure it's a GT Pulse (due to the tubing).

Hopefully will be put together in the next 2 days or so.

Are my eyes decieving me or is that a SS sprocket on the back? Without a coaster?

  • Only just enough clearance for the ultra short reach Modolo TT caliper but I think it's a pretty elegant solution.

Modolo or Dia-Compe Aero Gran Compe (AGC-300)? You decide...

  • I have those calipers on my tark bike.

Out of interest, do you know where i can get replacement brake blocks from ? they seem completely unique.

  • V Nice dude! :)

So tight though - you not worried about fork flex?

Ditto, have you tried riding it up a steep gradient in the drops yet?

  • Out of interest, do you know where i can get replacement brake blocks from ? they seem completely unique.

They were unique, back in the mid 1980s when they were a popular choice for testers. Not only are the pads unlike anything else, and fixed to the arms by an eccentric adjuster which means substituting something more modern needs a bit of ingenuity, but the reach was so short that you pretty much had to have your frame custom built to accept them, and putting a normal 39mm 'short' reach brake in their place sometimes requires filing of the top of the pad adjuster slots on the new brake to get the pad high enough.

Yellow Jersey are listing the pads as in stock at $50/pr
    http://www.yellowjersey.org/vinbrake.html
Their web presence is probably best described as retro like their stock, but if you phone them you're likely to be able to talk to somebody who has a clue, another retro feature :-)

  • I just found a set of those calipers in my random bits bin. Put it down and can't find it again now.

I found that Tektro cartridge style pads have the noodle on the back to locate it into the eccentric adjuster. Not sure if the new type have it -mine are about 7/8yrs old, couldn't work out from the pics on ChainReaction

amazing, i looked and asked everywhere for these of a period of a few months hoping to trace a few, but i got nothing. Cheers.

I think any current Shimano style shoe (including Tektro and Ashima copies) should fit, but probably need a different bolt as the normal bolt head looks too big to fit the recess in the eccentric adjuster. Of course, they won't look as cool as the stock ones, but you get to use common pattern pads, including modern compounds which might actually slow you down with a single pivot calliper, and you can buy generic Shimano copies for under £8

Yes, the bolt was one problem. Not too difficult to modify though. The aesthetic is the one major downside but on the other hand Shimano holders can look quite nice. The dulled anodizing on the 105 looks better better than chromed imo - also matches the caliper.

The main thing about them for me is the eccentric adjustment. It looks so much neater than having a slot running down the side. I guess it's cheaper/easier for manufacturers to make the slot for adjustment.

    It's her's. Nice apartment too.

    Velo Orange Montmartre.
Would've liked to put them on the Peug too, but already went way over budget..

  • ^ great job Björn! she should be well chuffed with the result

  • @ bjorn
