  • gives up photography

    Those are fucking SICK.

    seriously good stuff.

  • can you verbalise why you like these images so much?

  • The exposure of the 5th one looks absolutely perfect. (sorry I wasn't counting the house image)

  • MrSmyth, you're ahead of the game. For me, its the exposure of the last one that is noteworthy. The others seem to "suffer" from lighting conditions and contrast that went beyond the ability of a 5-stop latitude diapositive, IMO. Possible better suited to the 7-stop latitude of negatives. But the last one's exposure, given the subject matter (white snow and dark rock) was well executed.

Also, can I detect just a little movement in the 4th shot? Wind....or was it a handheld shot....not on a tripod?

  • are we down to just a technical assessment here? aesthetics not part of the program anymore?
you lot need to get yourself a copy of 'ways of seeing' and 'art and photography' by Aaron Scharf.
shakes head puts thread on ignore......

techinacilites aside, i absolutely love the subject matter. composition is cool, leading blur on the log with the cut-out is really effective. the dark greens in some of the shots are really vivid as well, looks awesome.
im not really up on the technical side of things so if i try and say any more i think i'l just embarrass myself.

  • I like the movement in the 4th shot. It makes it. Good stuff.

  • This really reminds me of the film 'Hannibal Brooks'.

1st image is good because: it's metered well, and as a result there's no dead white or black in the photo. Really nice muted tones. The head in front is a nice and interesting detail as is the aerial mast. Some nice textures/patterns on the house too - I like the contrast between the lines on the green roof and the diamonds on the walls.

2nd is just an interesting piece of rock and well - I just like rocks. Nice colour palette and tones, again metered well - would've been easy to lose that shadow. DOF/foreground leads into the subject well.

3rd is an interesting arrangement, the split wood and the ice formed inside, the fungus growing, tones + colours etc. I like the way the lines of the wood lead your eye up and down - drifting in front and behind the focal point.

4th, I like how the blur in the trees behind seems to contain movement and lacks resolution but the pine sticks out and seems sharp and static.

5th, OK I admit it, this isn't giving me a photo boner but it still has some nice detail picked out and some nice shapes in the out of focus background.

Apologies if my photographic analysis is dour.

  • Does anyone know if they still do Neopan 400 in 120 format?
Not the C41 process stuff please..

  • Sad, but if this lady starts a petition, I'm signing it.

    Save 16mm Celluloid......damn right.

slightly strange wording for a petition but there you go: http://www.gopetition.com/petition/43288.html

Its all gone. Both of my 2 favourite B+W films are now defunct. My other favourite died years ago, it was Agfa Scala in 120.
Still, Kodak still have Tri-X, so all is not lost.

Cheers for the petition link hoefla.

  • Thanks for the opinions, wasn't expecting to get that much feedback.
For a first try at slide film I am satisfied and now I have a better idea of what to expect from it. In hindsight I would have done a couple of things differently - bring a tripod and go alone. Most of the shots were rushed as I was on a hiking trip with my parents and wasn't able to spend long setting up and planning, just meter and shoot.

It was my first time incident metering too and I have another shot of the lodge that has 2 more stops of exposure( a guessed shot) which didn't really work out.

  • cheers ga2g. can still get it in 35mm though..

  • Canon AE-1 / Tmax 100
    New bars.

  • Badly scanned shot from my new Mamiya C330.

  • Calling GA2G, in the edited first post of this thread, you link to the Film Processing Thread, which is now moved or merged:

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread8385.html

Does it exist anywhere else or do I have to weave through 40 pages here to find a current list of places to send colour slide film to get developed and scanned?

I've just discovered about 3 rolls of Provia I thought I'd lost (in a sock drawer) and am keen to get them developed.

I haven't sent film out since Panther Images closed down, so about...8 months now and would like to look for a few reviews of reputable labs.

  • Good effort with a still unfamiliar camera.

When I first started using the Mamiya C3 series (C3, C33, C330) I often used to get too much sky. Eventually I either began reducing the amount of sky in shot, or for black and white, using a red filter and increasing exposure by 2.5 stops.

    I'll check and amend.
