Although, the average life of a machine is just about 3 years ... that's how my accountant sees it.
If my machine dies after 2 and some months I buy a new one, write the old one off, and am rewarded with a new machine. If I have to cope with JL warranty, I take my back up machine to work and after 6 weeks have the fixed one back ...
