    The only way I got around this was to build a little media PC that sits in my bedroom.

    Media Player links up all media to my PS3 and Xbox 360. it's got mine and my girlfriends music libraries on there. I can network attach MAC and PC to it, and i got the whole thing built for less than £300. The only problem is that to network attach the drives you stick SMB on the front so the MAC knows it's looking at an NTFS drive. it can read and write to this with no issue. Simple with Windows 7.

    The other plus is that the PC plugs into the TV in the bedroom, so we just watch Sky online in there (essentially multi-room) and TV catch-up see saw and iplayer. indoor antennae just don't work in my area, so online TV was the best solution.
