  • I was riding towards Old Street roundabout down City Road this morning. The traffic lights onto the roundabout were red. A large articulated lorry was in the left lane indicating left about two or three vehicles from the stop line. Two cyclists were ahead of me. One rode down the left of the lorry. The other, a young woman on a hybrid immediately in front of me, stopped as did I. The lights changed immediately and we moved off. As I passed her, I looked over and said;"Nice move" and smiled. She smiled back. I rode on.

Was my action the condescending action of a patronising middle-aged git or was it, as it was intended, an affirmation of good riding which may encourage that rider to continue her good practice?

I pondered this as I rode on and overtook the lorry (on the right and in a different lane). Should I just have kept quiet?
