I agree with cf on this one... My ex-flatmate, who is a complete bellend, put me off ever wanting to watch The Wire with his incessant 'I can't believe you haven't seen The Wire yet' bollox...
I'd suggest people go and listen to some Big Star instead... The Wire is a great show tho'...
