Finished for the minute, probably get some new wheels and a stem when I can afford it
mudguards/lights aren't all that attractive but they serve their purposeSo what's the cable guide on the underside of the drive side chainstay for?
-
• #78
Probably to do with manufacturing costs. The pompetamine probably uses the same stays (except for the non-drive side which has disc mounts). That's my guess anyway...

first indoor shot...needs brakes installed properly and bars set up right...maybe 1 or 2 spacers less on headset...1 chainlink more for more than 5 mm´s of clearance (although sexy)...any opinions? sorry bout the pic!!

Hi first time poster, thought this would make a good first post as I have just ordered an pompino, in glow in the dark green. The name could raise a few eyebrows here as I live in Italy!!!!! Looking forward to finally see the bike and of course ride it, it is mainly for my commute to work and back, but I might try a few passes as well.
Will get some pics up when it arrives................

Hope you enjoy your Pomp. I'm on my 3rd...first crashed, second stolen. You may want to upgrade the freewheel pretty quick, the standard 'Eagle' one is a bit poo and the fixed gear and lockring are cheapy too. Otherwise it's all good. You gone for drop bars or flats?

They certainly do in today's weather...

They can be attrached if you choose some steel/alu one and/or colour match them to your bike, a la this;

Drop bars, mainly got it for the frame and wheels, if and when the freewheel goes just swap it, got a pretty good shop here for all things Singlespeed and fixed.
cant be any worse then the Felt Curbside I have, which I like very much but after 6 months the rear wheel is shot, and the freewheel on that has never been great!!! The Curbside will have its brakes reattached and a babyseat fixed on for the summer, hopefully the wheel will stand up to that!!!

Agreed that you need to loose some spacers, maybe move one on top of the stem instead of under it? Other than that, bike looks good. I see plenty of Hope pieces on it, can't be a cheap build :) Also, might wanna turn the seatclamp 180? I always install seat clamps with the pinch bolt on the same side where the seat tube gap is. Dont think there is much difference either way, but it is just my preference. As for the rear wheel clearance, keep it tight is my way as I prefer to keep plenty of weight as close to the rear axle as possible. Gives a much nippier front :)

yeah 1 cm of spacers is going on top for sure...i went with a hope stem, spacers and seatclamp...never used any of their stuff before...very nice! and not too expensive when you order it in GB from germany ;)

Bit of a shit photo ... stem and bars are different (due to theft - watch out when locking outside the Barb, there are some kids with not much else to do that like to pick'n'mix) and forks are no longer straight (should probably change those soon).

Agree. I notice a new chip every time I give mine the once over. Just clean it and dab on a spot of clear nail varnish.
I have a medium baby blue frame build up with a carbon fork (dot bike) Miche Advanced chainset, Miche hubs on Open Pro rims, Charge saddle etc. Cost me about £800 all in but I love it, fast and light (8 kilos)

Love Hope stuff. Brilliant piece of CNC masterpiece and always value for money. Currently the stem and headset on my bike is from Hope and looking for a SS/Trials rear hub. Have you seen their prototype cranks? I-beam arms and looks indestructable! Brilliant company as always and they even have a special colour (Team Green) for their sponsored riders, these are not for general sale but do come up once in a while on the bay.

I thought you had the forks sorted out already?

first setup, long time ago.
After some changes, rode like this for more than a year.
Winter setup, 2009/2010.
forks after hitting a scooter full speed, you can imagine what the rest of the bike and my face looked like after this accident.missing my old pompino, might build another one someday...

Ouch! It looks so clean and uncluttered in the first photo.

Oh my god, why don't all bikes have this????
they used to (custom frame, especially French), back in the 50's, but nowadays they don't think it's worth doing and add a bit of weight, here's an example from a Rene Herse frame when you shift down to the smallest cog, push the shifter a bit to jump the chain from the cog to the chain holder and bingo;

How did you spend £500 building a Pompino?
I was wondering whether it would be OK to post my Pompetamine, but I fear the ridicule as it cost about £1100 :-)

Alfine hubs does that for you (and disc brake).

And another Pompolo.
I am running straight DJ forks which are suspension corrected and the 'rake' is on the fork crown instead of the usual fork blades. Check with Cameron who is running some trick straights on his.
