Which one of the three was that? Probably Palace Cycles.
There are a few fixed riders in Carlisle, judging by the number of fixies I see locked up in the town centre. There are more amongst the racing fraternity here but hey don't ride them in town. I returned to riding fixed about a year ago. Most of my fixed riding is in and around Carlisle, Brampton and Longtown. Not too hilly, just gentle rolling countryside ideal for fixed, I did try it in around Ambleside once but it was just too hilly to comfortably ride a fixed gear.
yup palace, apart from scotby the only other proper bike shop, the others are for bodging/ fixing argo's & asda bikes IMO.
I've seen one modern alu frame that was SS/fixed tied up in town a few months back, could have been a giant or scott or something of that order.
Yes, fixed with as many hills as these is a bit like hard work. I'm finding fixed is brilliant for town as you don't have to keep reaching for the brakes every 5 seconds, just sit up and look out for the wallies trying to run me down :/
project mystery bob is going 6speed, found a minty set of arabesque shifters & mech's for a couple of quid locally, and already have a brand new 600 6speed block going spare :D
