The valentines tourney in London was really good fun. It would've been nice to have more Brighton faces along, there were plenty of familiar London people there and it was nicely informal and easygoing.
The format was 2 on 2 and there were lots of couples duking it out. As a same sex team I was meant to be in drag but wasn't sure I'd even be playing when I set off so wimped out.
I got coupled with a guy called James who was rather good and we came third, for which the prize was an I <3 polo cupcake. They had a kiss for every goal rule, I've never kissed any other man as many times as I have now kissed James... that rule could be a keeper...
My little brothers came up and played as a team, needless to say the 12 year old is now pretty loved, there was a cheer when he left the pub.
We agreed that we need a decent Brighton tourney as soon as the weather is nice.

Hiya, I just moved to Brighton and am a keen cyclist and always fancied a go at polo. Will anyone be playing tonight, and if so, is it at Preston Park or Tarner? and when's training start and finish, plus I havent yet bought myself a fixie
Cheers

Thursday night sessions are on hold atm because we don't have access to a floodlit court. We'll definitely be playing Sunday and are looking to play Thursdays as soon as it stays darker later.
See you Sunday?

Thanks a lot Tim, I'll be down Sunday, and I think I've found a fixie on gumtree...
Is that Preston Park at 2pm? -

You can always borrow a bike if you don't have a suitable one.

Hi bicycledan! Do come along to polo on Sunday at Preston Park - we aim for a 1pm start but stragglers arrive any time after that.
A fixie is certainly not essential for polo, in fact a lot of players prefer freewheel and the relative merits of the two is something that can be discussed with great gusto :) As Tim says, you are welcome to borrow a bike for a few games if you'd rather not dive right in on your own. Polo can cause a certain amount of "wear and tear", shall we say...
Ju - It's all gravy, I've had my fill of tournaments for the moment. Just gonna concentrate on my skills and hit them up again in the summer. I can only take so much disappointment and injury ;)
Tim - "...Thursdays as soon as it stays darker later" - you did mean "lighter", didn't you? That or you're a proper closet emo scallywag

Polo flop. No ball, few players, wet ground and to cap it all - I broke my (famous) mallet!

• #1296
Bummer. Sorry, I was dealing with a thoroughly partied in house.

Weak. If there's no dedication shown to Brighton polo it will not survive. I know we are all banking on the summer coming (and also several people were away this week) but it's just whack to get down the court only to have to retreat shortly after.
Ach well. I'm just bitter and cynical today.

word people. saunders park (the one next to sainsburys on lewes road) has a hard court with built in goals, also equipped with floodlights. i'm not too sure as to what time these stay on til but will certainly be late enough for some week day tomfoolery. who's game for getting thursdays back on the road?

I saw that the other day. Definitely worth a try.

I'm definitely/optimistically aiming for PP this week. Today should dry the ground up nicely. I'll bring the cones/ball/boards an ting. 1300 hours. New tyres. New mallett. Sweet!
Love to!! The venue looks cool!
