I found multi-release were good but not perfect when I was using them, but the majority of that time i was playing fixed and brakless, and obviously unclipping when you're in full skid is rather inconvenient. single release (and a brake) have been a vast improvement.
I reckon freewheel multi release would be adequate without too much unwanted unclippage.
