Almost bottled in Elephant & Castle

  • Riding to Snowy/Gwyn's party this weekend up the New Kent Road getting close to elephant and Castle and decided to take the left turn on Rodney Place heading toward East Street Market. All of a sudden a wine bottle smashes in front of me as I'm riding. I look up and there are another 3 bottle heading in my general direction. There's a load of yoofs on top of some kind of roof top about 8 stories high laughing.
I keep cycling giving it the usual verbals but opt not to stop. If one of those things had hit me in the head fuck knows what would have happened. [strike]Deep down I wanted [/strike] I still want to do an Edward Woodward equaliser type thing on these little fuckers. It was the height of cowardice and downright dangerous.

Before any of you bedwetters come on here telling me I'm wrong in wanting to exact a fair brand of response, the cops said they couldn't find them, even if they did find them and prove their finger prints of the tiny shards of glass they couldn't proove they'd thrown the bottles. Just imagine your loved one being found lying in the road a mess and bikeless.

Anyway's be very careful on the back roads. On top of looking over your shoulder it seems like you gotta check the skyies too :-(

  • Proper cunts!
Worrying to think of the possibilities!
I nearly caught a massive vodka bottle to the head while riding along Victoria park canal.
Thrown from car park on other side of the water.

  • Some kids threw a brick at me around there, heygate/rodney pl, when the Heygate had a few more people living there a couple of years ago, from the elevated pathway that crosses the road. They shouted "Bike!" before they threw it so it was premeditated. There was a guy on a folder in front of me who didn't seem too flustered. In any case their aim was rubbish and it landed well behind me. Not nice though, and still a dodgy area. I commuted through there for 2 years and that was the only incident though.

I should have reported it but didn't, I just wanted to get home after that.

  • Little cunts. Glad they missed.
When I used to deliver pizza the back of the shop where we parked was overlooked by a multi storey car park. We often had trouble with kids hanging around but one night they had a BMX (almost definately nicked) and were throwing it off the top of the car park in front of our cars as we pulled in/out!

  • It's the sense that you can't do much and have to walk away that eats me up.

  • don't let it bite you Festus, these little pecker-wads will get on the other side of life's balancing act, just be sure to quietly enjoy those moments when you do get to see them.

  • I'm all for The Equalizer type revenge here. If you want it badly enough and had the time to dedicate I'm sure you could find some similar, repeat behaviour in that street. When you do, its fucking kneecapping time!

  • fuck me dude - that's my route home every night...
a while back this happened to me as well:
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread46010.html

basically, watch out for that stretch of road - brandon/portland street.

  • actually thinking about it, we should report both incidents to someone...
but who...? police? or is there a specific branch of the police of community watch or something?
really don't want this to be an underlying fear for many riding that way home each night - myself included.

  • Fixie crew.

  • [qoute] yo all -
two nights ago, a friend of mine was mercilessly beaten up by a 'gang of youths' while cycling back from old street.
they were hiding between two cars, jumped him on his bike, took him into an alleyway, beat him to a pulp - and of course took his wallet, phone, and brand new build (the most heartbreaking piece of info, of course)
normally, i would never think about anything like this. i feel completely safe and confident on a bike, much more than say when i'm a pedestrian. but it got me thinking that you can't be too confident in any situation...
and surprise surprise, last night on my route home from work (after Rodney Place off New Kent Road, in the Brandon Street/Portland Street stretch that runs parallel to Walworth Road...) the exact same thing happened to me - but I saw it coming and managed to avoid getting the shit kicked out of me.
A group of kids were waiting on the corner of a sidestreet. I could see them in the distance, and thought nothing of it, but when I noticed another kid on a shitty red mountain bike closer to me who saw me and then whistled to the group. I knew what was about to happen so I was ready - kid ran out, and basically took a huge swing at me, while another came from the other side and tried to grab me by the neck.
i weaved right through em, but it was stupidly close. i got the fuck out of there at top speed, and flagged down a cop when I was in peckham about 3 minutes later. I gave them the exact address and for once they actually seemed to take me seriously.
hopefully, this won't happen again, but I really just wanted to warn everybody on here as that's quite a popular route for us South-East Londoners to get home - but also a pretty desolate and empty place after 8PM. if that kid had hit me while I was going full speed as I was, with SPD's on, I dread to think what could have happened. and giving that this happened to my buddy, and almost now-to-me, it's worth wondering whether this is becoming a popular trend...
    keep your eyes peeled![/qoute]

    F me...

  • I want it badly.
People say it will not make you feel any better. WRONG. My corn flakes would taste the bestest the next morning.
But then common sense starts tugging away at me: Getting caught by authorities. Loosing all my job. Loosing the respect of people that matter....

    #tosses coin

  • #...makes it best of three

What a crap experience, Festus. So glad that they missed you!

  • that is bloody nasty, festus.
    really glad you weren't hit.
keep your eyes peeled and your ears open all

  • I was cycling through Mayfair recently when a petit-four and two Belgian truffles landed right in front of me. Some fucking rich kids were tossing them from the roof garden of their parents' mansion. So it's not just in 'south' London.
You can call me a bedwetter if you like - and it's true, I piss those sheets most every night of the week - but I just wanted to grab them and give them a jolly good talking to. I even thought of calling the police but I knew they could never prove anything; the streets in Mayfair are literally covered in expensive and morish deserts. It makes my blood simmer I can tell you that.

  • :)

  • Oi fois gras thread it that way!->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I could smell the grape, the bottle was so close. Cheap chardonnay fucks

  • I'm guessing they were'nt throwing bottles of Chateau Margaux in Rodney Place

  • Nah, one of them was Blue Nun (not the thrower).

  • good thing it did happen to you, Will:

You just wanted to give them their just desserts, right?

  • Real glad your ok Festus.

Don't go looking for revenge though, those little cunts really don't
give a fuck which is why they also don't care if the stab folk to death either..

It's just not worth it. But i really, really feel your frustration!!

  • yeah i'd like to see that but it takes a lot of effort

  • This does bring up a serious consideration for the inner city cyclist though. Do you arm yourself with more than a clumsy D-Lock that you might be able to lay your hand on. A baseball bat may be a bit big for your everyday cycle bag but something with a bit of reach and some weight could do.
