I have a road bike with shimano 600 dual pivot brakes and I have been really appalled at the weak as piss braking.
I have a old beater with chrome rims and single pivot brakes, and it stops sharper than the road bike which has dual pivot brakes, shimano pads (like new) a CXP33 rim on the back (machined surface has worn down and become concave) and ive tried both a open4cd and a campag omega v on the front.
Everything feels similarly weak. I dont really get it.
Ive tried friends bikes which have generic tektro (or worse) road brakes with basic cheapy pads, but they feel dead sharp almost like v-brakes.
Why cant I get this stopping power?
bad chakra.

Look at cleaning the pads and rims. I would use brake cleaner to clean the debris off. Or a non abrasive cleaner such as cif. I might even give the pads a scrub with hot soapy water and a toothbrush.

Nah, you know roughly where I live. Which is probably for the best ;)
I'm such a good stalker, you didn't notice me. :P
Thought I saw you the other day coming out or going in to a house around there, thought it was you but was on a motorbike so thought I'd ask/mention it next time I saw you.

I tried that ages ago, no luck.
Only two possibilities left:
Shimano Brake Pads are really awful.
Machined Rims offer massively improved braking power.

Thanks for that. I have bought my daughter a Bianchi with 24" tubulars (the rims are a little dented and out of true) which i would like to replace with clinchers as i saw TFG had rims available for £15 each but they are 540s which seems to suggest that they are wheelchair rims and thus reduces tyre options somewhat. I will measure the rims tomorrow as it is elsewhere due to birthday suprises and all that. Any further guidance or suggestions would be gratefully received. At the moment I think sticking with the tubulars may be best. So maybe i need new rims? -

If vegans use no animal products, why can they use fossil fuels?
-
• #7170
Because the fossils died from natural causes, therefore the vegans are not responsible for their suffering.
-
• #7171
The fossils were never alive.
-
• #7172
I don't think they are allowed any animal products, death and suffering don't come into it.
-
• #7173
I like Balki's creationist take on this.

Yeah, or they could eat roadkill
