  • Those are canti' (cantilever) brakes.
    They do pull from the centre, but confusingly centre pull refers to a slightly different form of calliper brake.
    The canti mounting post is exactly the same for V brakes so you'll be fine.

    Slap 'em on and have fun!

  • In the mean time you could significantly improve the feel and grip of the brakes by lowering the yoke/cable hanger a bit. The front especially is quite high.

    If you look at the brakes head on the "ideal" set up of cantis has the cables coming from the brakes meeting at 90 degrees like so:

  • It will work if you are using the same levers as photo, I think. Drop bar levers don't work unless they are specifically for V brakes (Dia-Compe do some). Looks straightforward.

    Oh, and these;

    Front and rear the same, but the noodles are different.

  • Very good point 36!

    V brakes need more pull from the lever than cantis.
    Early flat bar levers may not have enough pull.
    Later versions were adjustable to work with both Vs and cantis, there is a switch marked V and C and you put the switch at the letter representing the brake you want to use.

  • Treat yourself, the levers on that thing will be horrid by now.

  • nomoreknees and 36x18 many thanks for your clear, precise and informative replies. i have just bought this ride on e, and was planning to build the reasonable 501 frame up into a "utility" filly ! being able to run v's is the intention is great, but i have had no experience with them so advice was well appreciated, also many upgraded parts will find their way onto this little girl !..... likin' the avid levers on sjs, i may well go for the black on black look !
