    Do you suffer from spoke breakages in the centre of the spoke? Thought not. Plain guage add stiffness, not that you'll need it it 32-36 spokes and those rims, but they actually give the bit of the spoke that usually breaks a harder time as a result. The greater strain under load of butted spokes tends to distribute stress over more spokes by allowing the relatively stiff rim to move under axial loadings, thus bringing more spokes into play.
