so if anyone has any ideas for them you are more than welcome for them
p.s. if you have any idea how i can fix the threads much appriciated

    collection from Fulham

  • Maybe talk to http://www.highpath.co.uk/
They claim re-tapping plus insert capability.

  • no ideas sorry

  • Liquid metal can usually be used in some rethreading jobs - it's basically filler. I've no idea whether it would work on a pedal thread which is small and has an awful lot of force to deal with.

  • use the filler then install old usable pedals, let it harden. you wont be able to remove them but at least the cranks can be used for another while longer

    good idea?

  • Just my limited experience.....

High path did a fantastic job on a set of Campag tandem cranks that a mechanical incompetent had some how managed to screw the wrong pedal in to stripping the threads.

They used a helicoil type insert, still going strong after a good few years.

Tried the metal filler in cheap Miche cranks with little success as it just cracks and the pedal comes loose again.

Tried putting it in with a syringe to super clean axle and crank threads as well as building it up and tapping it out over three applications with two days to harden between layers.

    Both methods, same results :-(

When you consider the consequences of a pedal coming off a crank whilst riding or even worse the crank breaking suddenly , then a new crank looks cheap !

Perhaps a mechanical engineer can work out the force on a pedal axle where it screws in to the crank, I know when I watch our riders doing standing starts from behind you can see the leading pedal end drop past horizontal as it twists the crank during the first 1/4 pedal rev....

It's a shame when classic kit gets broken though ....
