But apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what has the Ahead stem ever done for us?
(That's Sheldon Browns, so don't speak evil of it.)
Srsly, I don't care if an ahead stem is better in all measurable ways, I don't like looking at them.
The quillinator is a bit spesh though.
While we're trying to ignore it, is there enough wall thickness on a threadless steerer tube to cut a thread and use a threaded headset? And a diddy insert to space from 22.2 to 25.4.

These are for 1" threadless systems. No 1-1/8" in the works yet.

I've been thinking about this for some time and googled some, but there aren't many who have done this or are recommending.
My LBS didn't really feel like doing this, as threaded tubes might be of another kind of steel (weaker, not / less suited for threading).I then went by some machineshop today.
They told me it's not the kind of threading to find in a regular shop, so they either order 1 for 125gbp or cut the threaded part of an old steerertube and weld it on the ahead version (deep weld/flow through?), which ofc then needs to be long enough for the quill to fit.
They have some nice equipment, so I guess it's worth the try at 25gbp to see if they can get it done and straight with 2 old forks.

"We're often approached by customers who have a Nitto or Cinelli quill stem and can't use it because their fork is threadless. We mulled over this for a while..and came up with the design for the product that has been dubbed "The Quill-inator". "
Retails for $119.99, which should translate to around £100 over here... but you are getting the whole headset. Doesn't look very elegant though, which surely is the whole point of wanting to run a quill stem?
