Frame Repair London?

Posted on
  • Hey Guys

Wondering if anyone could help, been searching around the site to see if I could find any decent frame repairers - will travel, but first I need to know exactly what is wrong with my bike, I have contemplated ringing various bike shops and saying 'the thinggy that holds the thinggy to my bike has snapped off' but didn't think it would get me too far....

....I believe this is a braze-on front derailleur and it has snapped off the frame, is that right or have i just taken a load of words and merged them together?

    thank you!

  • Looks like it to me, but that's not the best pic in the world. You can either get it repaired (replaced), or just buy a band-on derailleur (after cleaning away the excess hanger bits).

Couple of people on here can help you out if you want to replace it. ryanmcaig is making frames as Oak Cycles and Max (m a x) has just set up a studio and is able to do this sort of thing.

  • thank you!!! :D

  • If you are based South, Vaz is another option. I think it's £5 per braze-on.

How nice is the bike/how much do you like it?

If it's something special then it might be worth getting it done properly. But bare in mind it will involve a fair bit of heat, and so the area will need repainting. Otherwise, as horatio suggests, a band on could be easier. You'd need to carefully file it down and touch up the paint.

...and yes you are correct it's the braze-on for your front derailleur/mech.

  • whooop whoop check me out and my technical speak!!

i love my bike, i first joined this form when it was stolen and through the help of this forum recovered it, wouldn't mind having it repaired and waiting for a repaint - and phew thought you were going to say a couple hundred quid to get it fixed!!

work in se1, live in dalston, but will travel for the right repairer! :)

  • Ryan's workshop is in SE1, Max's is in Stokey. You're spoiled for choices.

  • awesome! dropped Max a message!!

  • Can anyone make suggestions as to where I could get my Bianchi steel frame repaired in London? (I live East but can travel easily).

    Thanks

  • Oak Cycles is East
