I got hit yesterday. I was heading North on Prince Regent Lane in Plaistow, approaching the junction with Barking road at around 0830. A longshot but did anyone see it?
I've not posted this in Rider Down as I am relatively fine, just a few bruises and a re-occurence of an ongoing back injury as thankfully I landed on my rucksack. But my bike is trashed and the attitude of the driver makes me think I'm going to have problems.
I was stationary in traffic, in the middle of the lane, if anything nearer the white line than the middle and there is a side street to my right, car behind decides to cut into that on the wrongside and ignores the obvious obstacle in this plan, namely me. Takes my back wheel from under me, I end up on the floor and the fucker drives off. Thankfully traffic calming stops him and I manage to catch him up (running in roadshoes carrying my trashed bike - must have looked cool!) and only by standing infront of the car does he stop, clearly doesn't see why he should stop and denies any wrong doing and tries to drive off again. Stop him, he gets out, and says it was my fault as I reversed into him! At this point I tell him I'm calling the police and he tells me as I'm not injured there is no need, I say fine and point out that the bike is worth £2k and again he gets in denial mode. So I call plod and he is told to wait. He doesn't, just writes down his details and and leaves...
Police confirm that the details were correct and that he is insured but his whole attitude, makes me think that even going through solicitors this could be a real ballache.
Oh and the icing on the cake of a thoroughly shitty morning, apparantly being hit by a car is not a justifiable reason for being late in what I guess will soon be my former job!
