buy the security gard a box of chocs they will love you and be more willing to help others in the future.
I wouldn't read into what happened too much but a box of chocolates would go along way. I work at a london hospital (dont want to say more than that) and a certain lethargy prevails amongst the security guards because 9 times out of 10 their efforts are scuppered by poor CCTV coverage and other frustrating issues. They also are regularly treated as the lowest of the low by members of the public and sometimes their own colleagues.
Can only be a good thing that they are rewarded in a small way for getting a result even if it is something you'd expect them to do as part of being professional. Praise can be few and far between. A little bit of appreciation would go a long way to making sure they react positively in situations like this in the future. Especially at a time when many london NHS staff are in the frame for redundancy as a result of the mentally ill fated NHS reform plans.
Nice to hear a happy outcome. And as for the porter, with a bit of luck this will be the wake up call he/she needs to get themselves back on the straight and narrow once punishment has been served.
