  • Came over Tower Bridge turned left onto Queen Elizabeth Street, A van was parked up on the left with its lights on. Slightly dazzled I re-gained sight to swerve round a ped, was thinking how close was that to then hit that massive pot hole in the middle of the road. Queue me sprawled all over the road with a fooked front wheel and a smashed up hand. Not sure if I fell cause of the hole or i tried to bunny hop it and stacked it either way it hurts. £40 cab home later i have a gashed finger and a huge red lump over my left kidney / hip.

Front wheel will need to re-built and my pride is hurt, Any recommendations on where to get it re-built, 36h Open Pro on a Phil. This was Ivan's bike...

Still funny story from the cabbie on the way back home about how he sold up expecting to move to greece with his wife only for her to tell him she had been hiding £50k worth of debt....now he is back out in the cab !

  • I'd recommend getting your wheels done by arup sen. i found him through the forum and he did both wheels for 18 quid i think. just make contact for what you are after, then order the bits to his address.

    really nice guy too

  • my bad, it was £18 per wheel.

  • Cool, Thanks....Only the front wheel is bust.

Can you re-use the spokes, nipples ?

  • +1 for Arup. Great guy to deal with (and very fast when he built a wheelset for me).

  • problem is spoke length changes depending on which hub and rim combination you choose. spokes are about 10p each anyway and you can buy them in singles i think. generally the postage is what catches you out, but if you are buying hubs/rims too, then its ok.

he recommended to me the places with the best prices, and gave me a list of hubs and a list or rims to choose from that he has already worked with so will know the spoke length outright. also gave me a complete list of spoke styles that he can do (two cross, triple cross, crows feet etc).

i got open pro rims on suzue pro max hubs. done the best part of 1000 miles on it, and still as true as the day i bought it.

    hope that helps

If you've gone down hard enough to destroy the front wheel, also check the forks and the headtube's joints to the downtube and toptube carefully before riding it again.

  • Jerome,
    Mate!
    You poor fucker, you okay?
Buy another Open Pro and I'll rebuild it for ya, no charge:-)
Spokes should be okay but I'll replace the nipples, fnarr:-P (you shouldn't re-use nips)
Alright maybe some tinnies as a small fee?

    Ivan

That stretch of road is getting worse every day...

  • I wouldn't re-use that rim again.

  • Thanks Ivan...sorry I did this to your baby after a few weeks. 2 Years and nothing, 4 weeks with your bike then this !

I'll sort out another open pro and get in touch about your preferred brew....

  • It's your bike now mate:-)

Besides the peds on that stretch always seem pretty stunned to see any traffic...
Not to mention that each time I go down there I keep thinking of getting a full sus bike!

Drop me a line when you get the rim, 4 pack a Grolsch should get it done:-)

You got a spare front wheel to get you to work in the meantime?

  • Thanks..New Open pro was ordered on Saturday. Yes I have a few knocking around in the garage to keep me moving for the time being.

    Thanks again....
