  • other cars being courteous to me or other road users or peds and not doing the correct thing is a fucking menace.

the other day i was going down union st in middle of wrong side of road to avoid peds coming out from between line of cars. coming up to a zbra crossing, dude shoots out a few meters before the actual crossing looking the other way. minor hit. both responsible imo, for me its a balance between speed and safety which i often get wrong either way.

people usually only look left when coming out from stationary traffic. riding on the correct side of road results in collisions if trying to go anywhere with any sense of urgency, riding further away means that peds who usually are walking are not on a collision course, i am not at risk of getting doored, and they should look right anyway to check for mopeds and cyclists. especially crossing a road in london, you'd have to wait 1 minute to cross the road at a crossing anywhere.

the inability of 90% of peds to jaywalk safely conflicts with my anarchist sensibilites of people being intelligent enough to govern themselves.

This is how I ride, I've been doored and hit people stepping out from infront of buses etc. If there's no room to go wide I tend to slow to a crawl if approaching buses and vans. Pedestrians are definitely a liability, but then so are other cyclists that don't look where they are going.

big hate of mine is filtering down the outside like this and cars having the same idea if they are turning right further down, pulling out without looking. very dangerous as swerving to avoid them could lead to a head on collision with something coming the other way.
