As for brakes if you want something serious just go for any of the top of the range brakes from any of the big names, I'd take Dura-Ace personally.

upgraded brake pads will make a lot of difference too.

This. Cheaper than new brakes too. New cables will help too if they're getting worn out.

Yeah. Shimano 105 with Green SwissStop pads is a classic combination. Go for Ultegra or Dura Ace if you feel you want to spend some more money.

for stopping power any shimano slr dual pivot brake caliper will be suficient. just upgrade the pads possibly, and get some good inner cable that doesnt stretch
what height are you anyway?

SRAm make nice road brakes. I'd check the set-up first though. Make sure pinch bolts are tight enough and that all the outer ends have been filed flat. Also check the positioning of the pads relative to the rim, with a bit of toe-in (forward edge of pads slightly closer to the rim).

thanks, y'all...
Two things I'm interested in at the moment:
I'm 100kg +, as well, so need something serious -- any recommendations?
Any ideas on either are much appreciated... thanks.
