Well, he's covering his back by talking about 'state multiculturalism' (whatever that is) but I doubt the nuance will survive the reporting in the tabloid press.
Also, this:* "Under the doctrine of state multiculturalism we have encouraged different cultures to live separate lives, apart from each other and the mainstream".* Would he say this about the Orthodox Jewish community round where I live? No, he wouldn't though it would be broadly true. He is eliding religion, culture and terrorism in a sickening way. The absence of any Orthodox Jewish terrorists in Britain allows him to avoid anything resembling a subtle or sophisticated discussion about what 'integration' really means and instead gives succour to people who are already prejudiced and uninformed about Muslims in Britain. Asinine, crude and lamentable.
