There's no way that bike was abandoned. I've seen CSI and it looks more likely that it was attempted stolen pre-Christmas and that the owner has neglected it whilst he/she gets funds together to repair the damaged wheel (damaged during the attempted theft). Then the bad weather has caused a rapid rust on the chain, and some minor vandalism has tainted the saddle.
But most importantly, the chrome on the forks reveals very clearly that the bike has not been abandoned. Factoring in the bad weather over the past couple of months, it's in pretty good nick.
As pointed out in this thread, the police and the council have NO RIGHT to declare theft legal. Theft is theft, pure and simple. You have removed someone else's property without their permission, and you defend this by saying that it's OK as someone else said it was fine.
If that is OK, then give us your address as I think your whole flat looks abandoned and prancer wants to remove it.
Seriously pol paz, you'll never now have love on here or on any other cycle forum which the people on here frequent... unless you right now surrender that bike to a local police station as lost property. That's the only thing you should be doing. And if after 6 months or whatever, the police say that no-one has collected it and you can have it... then fine. But no way do you have any right or claim to that.
I hope someone goes to the police and reports it as stolen, just so I can gleefully give over your details and the police can remove the bike from you just after you've blinged it out.
