lfgss really IS the friendliest place on the web....
although I see the points from both sides. If it were me, I would just use the wheels to death. In bike world (same as electronics world) things devalue quickly from store bought new condition, regardless of usage (or even quality of build, don't we all know). Sounds like the fella is trying to get back some of what he paid, although what with it being 2011 et al you have to price lower than the lowest interwebs (new/store) price regardless of what YOU personally paid, otherwise you just get grief like this thread perfectly demonstrates.
E.G. for my "half decent landfill salvage bike project" I picked up a pair of mavic CD tub rims, tubs on dura ace (or was it 600?) hubs from a bike recyclying place for a tenner (inc some other bits, levers, shifters, tube & misc. bolts), they were worth more than that as they were. But since then, i've re-spaced the axle/hub, cut the axles down, re-dished the rear multiple times. they are now IMO... worthless to anyone else. They only suit my need, if I was to get rid of them, it would be to someone desperately after a wheelset for zero's, infact i might actually have to give them something to take them away. I only stand to loose in cash terms £10, but in effort terms I would value my time in altering those wheels at about £50, I would never expect to recoup that.
