  • Nowhere Fast, you can able to prevent such incident from happening again by riding near to the centre of the lane, this way it forced driver to think twice about overtaking you.

  • I just think some people don't see cyclists as having any rights on the road and therefore just blank them out as being inconsequential.
Thats why they look so shocked I guess when this 6' 4'' cyclist catches them up at traffic lights and taps gently on their window !!

If you were riding very closed or near the kerbs, then drivers almost not see them whether riding near or on the middle of the lane mean he have no choice but to stare at that wonderful buttock of your wiggling in such glee.

  • driver's hate cyclists because we dont pay road tax

  • Vehicle excise duty.

  • Neither do they

  • If we did pay VED based on our emissions we would be rated the same as an electric car.

oh lord not that again, i was in the center....

dont remember Adamski being 6'4" ... Seal however...but then it was 89.

  • I pay VED on two cars. Does that mean that I am more entitled to ride on the road than a driver who only pays VED on one car?

  • Yes.

  • ^^ you're twice as entitled as long as you're driving both cars at the time

  • the fact that you cycle instead of driving your cars, thereby reducing wear and tear on their precious roads, also means every other motorist who uses the road owes you a shiny 2 pence for your troubles. kerching!

  • the fact that you cycle instead of driving your cars, thereby reducing wear and tear on their precious roads.

funny you says that, you remind me of something I saw the other day - potholes.

Nothing news about that, but that particular road were potholes free (near Stockwell tube station), but there was a building development near that new Tesco is at, and several big potholes appear after a short while - a small number of HGV tipper somehow successfully managed to create lots of pothole on that section of the road and very bad one at that.

it amazing to see just how much damage a vehicle can do to the road, especially when I can see it firsthand.

  • Neither me nor my wife pay VED on our cars due to our love of antique motor conveyances. Not one motorist has ever claimed we shouldn't be on the road though. Least, not that I've noticed.
If I didn't know better, I'd have to assume there's some hypocrisy going on.

  • There is a dodgy piece of road here where a couple of major arterials merge at a big intersection. There is a busy cycle lane which runs down the left hand side of the main road which has lanes merging into it from the left... this puts the cycle lane 2 lanes in from the left, and 3 lanes in from the right. Its fucking dodgy because cars need to cross it depending where they need to exit the intersection. Ace fun though, because its down a big hill so everything happens around about the same speed as the traffic, if not a bit faster.

Anyway, today I've noticed that there is a new flashing LED sign which says "watch for cyclists" and then flashes up with a pic of a bike.

    It is good.

  • The bike looks shit though... why do outlines of bikes on signs and stuff alwayys have the drops upside down?

  • Because it's in Oz?

  • Scoble bikes.

  • it's not just a tax thing imo. IMO people always seem to have a problem when they see others doing things they either can't or wouldn't.

The other day I was riding my motorbike past a massive traffic jam on a narrow road and a guy positioned himself to stop me going past. Drivers see cyclists passing them in traffic, jumping red lights, etc and wish they could too.

The rest of it is just a them and us deal. I've never had a problem with black cabs, but there seems to be some sort of tribal warfare with them. Same thing I guess.

Oh and I like the skinny tubes on this one:

  • The other day I was riding my motorbike past a massive traffic jam on a narrow road and a guy positioned himself to stop me going past.

Saw something similar in January, approaching a junction on a dual carriageway and a couple of motorbikes came up the middle of the two lanes. A car a few in front pulled over to close the gap, the motorbikes turned on their blue lights and had a quiet word.

I smiled and turned up the radio.

  • some dodgey road near me, like riding on a wave , looks like a lorry drive over it before it set, hate that road

  • oh lord not that again, i was in the center....

Actually I wasn't having a go at you or anything, just genuine concern for others.

  • Cycling over the wilds of Walthamstow Marshes this afternoon, I noticed 2 instances of "ban cyclists" graffitied on walls. Done by a frenzied walker with a grudge, presumably.

Just subvert that by scribbling "ur" and "are ace" either side of it.
