picked up a pair of these last weekend. Do the job really well. Nice strong sole and stick to flat pedals like glue.

I know nothing about trainers and generally have no interest in them at all. But, way back when I was a kid there was one pair of Nikes I wanted so, so badly, but my parents decided they were too expensive and I never got them. Flash forward and I managed to find out what they were. They're Nike SC 2s, in Infra Red. Something of a classic/cult shoe judging by Googling. It seems they're going to rerelease a slightly modified version at some point, but it shit colours.

What are the odds of being able to track down a pair of NOS or as near as possible? Like I say, I have no idea of the shoe collector's world. I'd have thought it would be impossible given that they're probably 20 years old, but who knows.

Yeah, I saw those. I'm keeping my eye on them, hoping that they'll come out with the original colourway too, or one I just like more. I'm in two minds about whether to go for those new ones if they're the closest they're going to get. I don't really like them too much, but if it's as close as I can get...

I guessed that would be your stance, but I wouldn't be surprised if the OG colorway made an appearance. People were bugging out about the AJ6 Infrareds that weren't labelled as such, Nike re-released them a few months later in a pack.

Worried that the infra looks too orange on the retros though.

Me, I'm all about the Hi Tecs one wear out to a club to take the sheen off them and get the suede good and grey, job done.

Anyone got any smart ideas about how to permanently stain a sole black? White soles are anathema to me, but my favourite pair of cycling shoes have 'em. I've been periodically giving them a few layers of black spray-paint, but it's just not hard wearing enough.

Failing that, can anyone point me in the direction of some all black (totally, all black, no stitching, no detailing that isn't black as midnight) Vans? Preferably pretty low. I've already got the all black suede chukkas, and I had some all black Del Barco's in suede but I wore them almost every day for about 2 years until even the duct tape wasn't keeping them together...
