  • actually makes me feel a bit sick that they quoted from here.

    Cheap journalism

  • You & others were posting in the heat of the moment about someone you care about, they have fact checkers and editors that should be stopping this reckless publishing.
    Disgracfull.

  • just emailed them to tell them how disgusted I am by it (politely of course). Thanks to charlie_lcc for the post with their contacts.

  • really sorry to hear about the motor bike rider. my thoughts and prayers are with him / her, family and friends.

  • thoughts and prayers for dan, family and friends.

really sorry to hear about your crash.

    hope you heal up.

  • re the press.

hopefully it will never happen. but if i go down please get as much information as possible out to as much media as possible and as quickly as possible.

the public and the powers that be should know what is happening out there.

that includes photos of any injuries etc.

  • Don't you think you people are getting a little tribal about your patch? Seems to me it was posted on an open public forum.

  • As posts have been edited it's difficult to see what has happened here, and it would seem that any interaction you've had with the Gazzette has worked as there is little else there by way of info there too now;

No matter, whoever Dan is I wish him the very best and hope that he gets well soon. Another lorry... just terrifying. Thoughts with family and friends and Dan.

  • Ah ha.. just seen that the Hackney Hive are the ones publishing personal details, not the Gazzette. Not surprised to be honest, seems insensitive at best.

  • Don't you think you people are getting a little tribal about your patch? Seems to me it was posted on an open public forum.

Yep. Fair enough. Just felt weird out of context that's all. I hope I didn't derail this thread by raising this. Not my intention at all.

  • @gobby_wench Hmmm...

Your point about it being an open public forum rather misses the point - the point is that people here are talking to people they know care, as oppose to the press directly. Yes, it is a semi-public forum where anyone can (and do) lurk, but most of us on here know to have a bit of sensitivity about these things when we know that people and their loved ones are hurting (as oppose to say writing about it on an advert-laden blog in an attempt to bump up visits and revenue)

Of course, as someone above pointed out, a real journalist with formal training and a career reputation to uphold would never indulge in such ghoulish behaviour, unlike what has been done at the Hackney Hives but that's the domain of the tinternet 'writers' for you I guess...

Anyway, let's not derail the thread - it is here for sharing thoughts and best wishes to the injured and his loved ones.

  • gobby, not being tribal, but the rider down threads, though not ultimately "private" are a space where information about accidents can be shared, and many friends and family of the person involved in the accident have come to this forum and these threads have done so in the past.
We all know that in riding bikes, many of these accidents/incidents could have happened to us, so we want to know what happened and that the person involved in it, is okay.
If in publishing the comments above, the hackney hive make friends and family unwilling to come onto these threads to give us good, or bad news, then we all lose out.

Thoughts with the friends and family of both incidents..

  • It's a shocking week.
All our hopes and wishes are for Dan's survival. Condolences for the friends and family of biker at QM.
I used to live on that corner in Dalston, it's always been nasty there.
    The Gazette

Tuff. It is what it is. Cyclists blaming everyone and a pack mentality. It's also what the Brits do best..... whinge whine whinge. Get over yourselves.

Be grateful it's not phone hacking eh?

    ;)

I wish Dan a speedy recovery

    Are you for real?

  • are you trolling a condolences/rider down thread?

    you have chosen... poorly.

  • Poorly chosen indeed. But then Gobby_Wench only ever turns up on threads to do with either bike crime or collisions in the E2 / Hackney area, sometimes with links to the Hackney Hive itself, which puts me immediately on my guard. Smell? Rat? Much?

That he or she says "'tuff [sic] it is what it is" when someone has just explained that family and friends of the hurt or bereaved often come here makes me question their capacities as a decent human being, 'journalist' or not.

@gobby_wench Typing away all alone in an attempt to draw attention to yourself on a thread concerned about someone else's well-being would make me feel sorry for you, if I didn't already hold you in such contempt.

  • I've just signed up to this forum and in doing so agreed not to make "hateful" comments. I consider the "tuff" comment from gobby_wench to be hateful and wondered if it could be removed?

I really wanted to say thank you for this thread. It was a great comfort to see such warm messages of support for Dan last night. He is much loved and we are all worried sick about him. The internet is a mixed blessing at times like this (being able to see a photograph of the accident was gut-wrenching) but this form of community really helps.

  • Healing love to this rider Dan, fight hard mate - we are thinking of you and your loved ones right now.

  • Best wishes Dan.

gobby wench please just go away.

  • RIP motor cyclist. :-(

  • @Dan and family, stay strong!

  • sent an email to hackney hive, alongside others, they've edited the article, not as much as I would have liked, but its better than nothing..

    http://www.hackneyhive.co.uk/index/2011/02/cyclist-in-collision-with-lorry-in-dalston/

  • My thought are with the rider. What a horrible experience. Really hope they pull through.

I emailed the Hackney Hive journalist too as I was concerned about the veracity of the 'facts'. Email below.

And I'd really appreciate it if Gobby Wench was removed from the forum. I suspect the same as Mark Bikes London... trolling hack journo - I use the word journo loosely.

    Hello,

I'm curious as to why you are quoting the London Fixed Gear Single Speed forum in an article of yours.
This forum often inadvertently gets filled with incorrect speculation. Just a few weeks back a cyclists was receiving RIP messages when he had in fact lived. How do you think this makes friends and family feel?

You need to use facts, not chit chat from a website.

    Thanks,

    Joanne

    -----Original Message To: joanne.clegg-----

The RIP messages came from the hand wringing ghoulish members of your 'closed community'.

The forum is an open public forum and I checked with the TOS before I posted anything.

    Maybe you should butt out.
