  • Love that paint job hoops

  • hehe yea knew someone is gonna notice. Was about to put them but phone rang and forgot to put them all before taking the photo. Got 5 now.

Ah ok I'd be surprised if it's even possible to ride carefully without breaking something with only 2 bolts in place. Getting distracted and forgetting to tighten stuff etc happens to me all the time, last week when I was out riding my handlebars came loose because I wasn't paying attention when I tightened the bolts :|

Back on topic though: Where might one purchase a Nelson frame?

  • So what?

So they get mullered after lots of wheel changes.

Fine for occasional riders who don't change their gearing, fine for people using them on the road.

The only thing that makes a difference to the OP's question about is it "better than a precursa?" No, it's not. But it's not a bad frame.

  • They don't get that mullered. I doubt many people have to retire their aluminium frames due to mullered track ends.

  • I also have one but only have ridden it about 60miles yet. Spend an hour on the track with it too.
Feels very responsive and stiff (I'm a lightweight..) the sloping top tube isn't really there (only 1 or 2 cm) on my size 54, less than a vigorelli. I still need to get a longer stem since the top tube is short. Welds look even better in real life than on the pictures, seatstays and seattube connection is very clean! I was surprised that you can get so much value for the money (check prices for other Kinesium/scandium frames). Also cyclebasket was very helpful about choosing size and sending the frame (had it sent to germany). I'm more than satisfied with the frame and fork. Only problem is (like with most new bikes) that I think it's a bit too nice for the streets.

  • pics?

  • That looks amazing. DIY job as well (I'm assuming) - respeck.

  • It's hard not to end up with an acceptable result when you have access to a fully equipped paint booth and a laser cutter but it does look really nice.

  • pics?

not yet. Can take some tommorow night if it will help with your decision.

  • it would actually :)

  • Allright, will snap some pics tommorow night and upload them on wednesday morning.
Also negaatios bike must be a 57 since I have a 54 and the headtube is smaller.

  • ^ yea its 57. 55 toptube. Forgot they were measured from bb to top of seat tube.

  • check this flickr album I made for you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58590467@N06/sets/72157625834709687/
These are no gallery pics, just some quick snaps! I had to use the flash so some colours might be off.
There's one photo of my merckx alu pista which also has nice welds, but not as nice as the welds on the nelson. The welds on the bb shell and track ends are more burly.

  • Wow, in love man, love that frame so much...
Spotted one yesterday night near my work!
Will get a 57 for sure.
    Cheers for the pix bro.

Glad I could convince you! I'm more than happy with mine. Also the service at cyclebasket was excellent.

A 57 might even have better clearance for bigger tires (if this is an issue for you) since my 25c rubs against the rear bridge when using 49:17. I think I could still push in a 28 with a half link though.

  • The bad point on the one I had was the fact that the rear brake bridge had a square area for the brake in the middle. This had the effect of lowering the brake bridge in the middle by a few mm's meaning it was always a squeeze and had to move wheel further back.
I filed it flush with the rest of the bridge before getting it painted and it was fine.

Agree that they are well made and relatively light framesets for the price but the TTs are very short giving a very over the bars position (even for a track geo frame) so watch the sizing. I should have gone up a size in retrospect.

Here was mine when I was going for the polished Al look. This is with 25c Marathon pluses as was was using it off road so these were the biggest/grippiest/punctureproofiest tyres I could get in there. (the stem and seat position prove it was too small!)

  • The geo is quite normal, it just that they are measured bb to top of seat tube, not center of toptube. Doing this adds about 2-3 cm to the actual frame size. My size 57 is actually 55 top tube and 54/55 seat tube in classical bicycle size terms. Just stick to the toptube lenght and you'll be fine. Its sloping geo after all.

    tl;dr: size 57 is actually size 55cm/55cm

  • I secon negaatio on this one. Top tube ain't as short as people might think.
Most frames are measured c-t though these days. Seat tube angle also counts when it comes to top tube length... However, track bikes often have shorter top tubes for a shorter wheelbase and therefore are meant to be ridden with longer stems.
The standover of the 54 is about 78cm with a 22c tire on this frame which also might help choosing the frame size.

  • So hold on a second, Iam 180cm with 85cm inseam, what should I go for 57 or 60cm?

  • 57

  • Had a 60cm nelson for over a year now, but since im not a penniless student I currently have it at the powdercoaters and plan on getting it set up the way i always wanted it...... got new nelson decals for it aswell

    love the frame btw

  • I'm considering getting one of these for use on the road. There was another thread where the issue of damaging the dropouts on skid stopping was raised. Has anybody encountered such problems?

    Also I'm about 5 ft 9" - I' reckon a 54 frame should be alright?

    5ft 9" equals 180cm. So 57 should suit better.

  • Conversion FAIL.
