I would be interested in helping with some design work...but I have a load of other things on at the moment too so could not take it on alone!
in terms of printers and some print on demand. I have a few suggestions it all depends on budget really, is it going to be a litho job?
-
• #11
no interest in the book myself but surely blurb books or a similar self printing set up would be more economical? and allow printing or the exact number ordered and economical re-prints if needed?
print quality is not the pinnacle of offset litho and colour management non-existent but the doe-eyed market isn't going to know the difference. -

louis, ping me an email at the above address with any questions you have and we can discuss, am learning on the job so to speak and there's more that I don't know than do. So it would be good to pick your brains as well..
I'm sure there will be space for you to do some designing on the book.
@ mrsmyth, am investigating blurb as I type, and its a very intriguinginteresting proposition, just depends on demand really, and I'm not going to know that until further down the line. I'm keeping all options open at this point..

il send you an email.
FYI blurb is shite, I printed some books with them and the aligment was off, the paper stock is rank and it just looks 'print on demand' aka, cheap.
I would however recommend lulu, same principal but better.

with what?
Pleasing the lovely masses if you're designing and laying out the book.
I do this for a living but will just be a happy customer.Corney, why not speak to the guys whom did the 'Fixed' book, or did they have a publisher?

@ wicksie, they had a publisher, and I'm in constant contact with Maxl about this one, max is willing to chip in, but has work commitments, and as far as I'm aware recuperating after the massive effort it took to get Fixed to the bookshops..

I do this for a living but will just be a happy customer.I do it for a living too, but I thought a book about bikes might be slightly more fun to design than the savings club catalogues I'm currently doing :) I know it'd be hard to keep everything on track but somebody's gotta do it, right?
Same as Louis, I'm happy to collaborate etc

I've done some books in my career as an artiste, but if you're doing it in Quark I'm out even before being in.
If not, I can do some stuff. -

i can probably do some stuff corny
Hey there,
The Forum Book, continues to roll along, and we now need a Book Designer (unpaid) to step forward and take on the task of pulling the thing together. Submissions are coming in, and its starting to take shape, but we do need someone who knows what they are doing to make all the elements make sense.
I'm a bit hazy about the correct titles/nomenclature for book production, but we need someone who is willing to oversee the look and feel of the book, as well as physically put it together/lay it out.
Now I can't sugarcoat it, it will be a lot of work, you won't get paid for it though I will endeavour to give you as much credit as I can and if any money is made from this, which doesn't go to the forum, that you get your fair share, but if done well, it'll be a thing of beauty and a joy forever. Now if you know someone who is willing and able to do this, possibly yourself, probably someone else you know, can you ping their details to us, either in this thread, or to lfgss.book@googlemail.com, preferably with examples of work they've done.
Also we're looking for printers to print the thing, when its put together, so if you know of any who'd be willing to do us a deal and a good job printing out this much anticipated masterwork, let me know.
We're also investigating self publishing/digital online publishing, so if you know any websites that offer good deals, or are good to deal with let us know them as well..
many thanks.
