Any new developments?

Can't do it at the west pier weekend of great escape but can do it pretty much any other date around then. shame we can't tie it in but not the end of the world. Council are keen but have no funds to back it, they may drop venue hire costs down to support the cause

I'd be very interested in taking part in the alleycat and would be happy to help with any organisation needed prior to the event.

If you wanted music, from DJ's etc I would be happy to organise this.
Also happy to send it through to people I know through blogs, magazines (VICE, ID, Dazed Digital, Platform). I know theres a lot more Brighton uni guys on here than Sussex, so I'd be happy to represent for the sussex lot, I'm good friends with our student president and activities rep.
As the 2 uni's have varying term structures and holidays, would be good to probably aim for a time for both unis. Getting stuff through to BHAVSIC (?) and other colleges aswell I guess.
Could Cranks feature somewhere in there maybe as well, as a very worthwhile local bike related entity. -

Yo when are the uni holidays? Do you recon it'd be good to have it on holidays or in term time?
Def wanna get unis involved.Update on whats going on:
I'm making a sponsorship package brochure thing to send off and raise some funds.
Major cost is gunna be court set-up and insuranceTenderloin - a soundsystem would be great. Music would be essential, I got a few DJ's but might be worth getting loads in if it's a weekend/all day event. PR would be amazing - when we got a date in stone def get on that
Alleycat is looking good! Course and format is siiiick but I gotta to wait till race day to tell ya. Will need people at checkpoints to hand out items etcand one or two marshalls dotted around. Prob gunna have a van on standby for pickup too
Polo - You guys are 100% right about having polo players who play regularly organizing it, I don't know much about it and what we'll need. Here's what I know we need so far:
Courts
Siding boards/fence
Refs
Insurance
Cameras!
Balls
Board
repair station
bike stands
beer
Topless chicksAnything else that we might need?
Cranks - Fo Sho! Get a stand set up at the venue or something? Maybe it might be a checkpoint on the alleycat already

Wow, this sounds huge. Well done for taking this on.
I would say go for term time? People tend to go home for the holidays?
I can help with BHASVIC but I can't imagine there are many people riding there (Toby?).
Also suggest you put it around the local cycling clubs like Mitre. Roadie's love winning stuff and I think a roadie/hipster clash would be good. Who's faster round a city centre circuit?
The charity I work for (www.bikeforlife.org.uk) may be able to help out. Cranks are the obvious choice for repair duties but we could help out if not.

As mentioned before I am happy to come shoot photos and know other photographers that would get involved. I can also help push it through Mint magazine (www.mintmagazine.co.uk) and Deerbrains (www.deerbrains.com)

I think term time would be good, the most participation that way, perhaps early summer term, before exams/dissertations stress really kicks in.
Don't mind mucking in wherever, know some good graphic designers/typographers/media student types, who I'm sure wouldn't mind helping out.I DJ at (in my opinion) most of the decent nights around brighton, and could get a whole spectrum of genres or look at more specific types, just let me know. Know a couple of the free party rigs which could be good for a soundsystem, or perhaps someone with BIM connections knows of a good P.A etc. Im assuming mics and stuff would be needed.
Just holla at me.

Sweet!
@Tenderloin - where do you play? I DJ too but my promoter didn't have any links in Brighton so I got no gigs when i moved - plus i've been well lazy about getting them myself... -

Dagger, Toothsayer, Vagabondz, Supercharged, Grizzly Business, Square Roots. Yeah sometimes it's just about getting to know a couple of people.

Grime! What do you play as?
You got an agent? Need to get back odt! -
• #39
Any news on this?
-

got no sponsors
got no money
got no polo
got no time since being promoted at work
Have a crack, can send you all the info i got if you like -

Let's not fuck about then, if people are keen to do something like this we should just keep it simple and have some fun! How about a race, fixed of course, 5 pounds entry, winner takes the lot. But the winner should probably then buy everyone a drink after.

Brighton summer bike polo tourney is going to happen. Max wants to get the London crowd involved proper.

I'd be on still arranging an alleycat, could coincide with the polo i.e if it's on a Saturday we could do it Friday evening? (So as polo players didn't miss out) or on the Saturday. Alternatively there could be no correlation with the polo depending on time restrictions/what people think.

I personally don't see the need to link the two events, but I have no problem whatsoever with the two coinciding. I would place the emphasis on getting people to participate rather than trying to organise a grandiose party/art exhibition/film festival/bbq with live bands and dj's... as nice as that may be, the effort that goes into organising such an event seems to be it's downfall - with all due respect.
I think we need to get together, organise a route and get people's opinions and ideas on the kind of race we want to put on and go from there. I would personally avoid using the term "alleycat" or even using that format or style of race as there is no messenger scene here in Brighton.
We get someone preferably with some illustration or graphic design skills (shouldn't be difficult in Brighton) to make some flyers/spoke cards to advertise the race, get some people to man checkpoints or whatever, do the race then get together at the pub or the beach or something afterwards. -

Sounds like a plan. If there seems to be the idea of meeting for the polo thing on thursday, should this get lumped in with the agenda as well? I'm not fussed on the format of the race, I'm sure we could implement a few fun ideas (photo tag, geo-cache, who knows) so that everyone gets involved...
-
• #46
This sounds like a good idea. I live in Brighton as well. Would be good to meet some other riders.

We can definitely discuss it on Thursday. If anything the dates we're looking at for the polo tourney are too far away. I want to get racing soon.

TreasureCat is always a winer!
Pirate themed as were near the sea!

Dan - I kinda just wanted to to the alleycat and got carried away by polo
If everyone chips in a fiver I'll make a frame for the prize still as long as I can get logo and website on the flyers -

i seconds polasp! would be good to meet some riders in the area!
Yo sorry if I seemed a bit off - I do want you guys on board.
Polo wise I have contacted Jubilee Sq and as we are working with a charity we should get it cheaper - just waiting for reply as currently answerphone and 'out of office' was all I've had.
Other alternative I thought of is the hardcourt area by the west pier, (where the link goes to) where the Tony Hawk demo was - massive space, loads of scope for spectators etc - power and toilet close too. We put on a surf lifesaving event there last summer and it went down really well. Surface might not be perfect but it'll be better than Jubilee Square surface. Hire from local council, public liability is expensive there if I remember correctly
Collapsible court sounds great, currently I've been looking at hiring a portable roller-skate rink. We could make our own but materials and time would be expensive, and they have to be sturdy and fire treated.
IdealStandard - sorry mate I'm not trying to mug you off, I've been doing loads of legwork the past few weeks, all your unput is valid and I'm really interested in the collapsible court idea!
I'll come and meet you guys at the rosehill if you like, I'll show you whats going on and whats in motion etc and get some feedback and stuff
Yo Liam, globe is a good shout!
