How many times do you have to wrap bar tape before it looks as if you know what you're doing with the stuff?

If you're gifted, once. If you're retarded, you'll probably never do a decent job. Most of us are somewhere between the two, but you should be able to make an acceptable go of it first time if you pay attention, do your research and don't rush.
