  • preparing my bike for work i noticed the rear wheel was rather untrue. i trued it up okish (+/-2mm verical and lateral) as i'm shit at these things, the spokes were still pretty loose so tension them all 3/4 turn in 1/4 turn increments. most are fine but 3 were super super loose and had about 2mm thread showing where the others had none. i tightened these to about the same ension as the rest of the spokes, wheel seems ok. is this ok? going to get it tensioned and trued professionally at somepoint but in the meantime will it be ok?

Yeh, this is generally the right thing to do. By tightening the really loose spokes you're relieving the stress from the overall structure. Just bear in mind that for this to happen means that the wheel probably wasn't that well made to start with and some considerable fatigue could have easily occurred already at the spoke shoulders. You'll find out in a couple of months if it's time for a new wheel when it starts busting spokes left right and centre.
