  • headset is the only bit that might be tricky, but just go at it murtle style.

  • ah, happy days.
get matey with a bike shop, then pay them in food/ sexual favours
    for stripping /rebuilding bike,

  • getting a headset out really isn't hard. pretty sure there are videos on youtube with instructions on everything from headsets to wheel building. if you get stuck anywhere just ask on here, or even if you just remove everything you can, taking whats left off will be a 5 minute job for anyone that knows what they're doing, as long as nothing is seized in.

  • Yeah I know it should be easy but i seem to have a good history of cocking stuff up. Snapped star fangled bolt, stripped thread on hubs etc. Isn't getting the BB out gonna be tough too?

  • key is patience, if it isn't going easy it's worth double checking you're turning it the right way, the thread is seated properly etc. also don't over tighten (i know this can be hard to judge)

BB is easy, couldn't be more straight forward. Have you removed cranks before? once they are off you just need to make sure you have the right bb tool, and you're turning it the correct way. Like I say, if you're trying to loosen something and it's proving difficult, may well be you're turning it the wrong way.

  • lefty loosey, righty tighty - apart from lockrings right?

might investigate bb tools, what one would i need to remove a sugino bb for messenger cranks?

  • If you were worried/needed tools there is a toolbox thread about who on the forum has what and where. And if a particular issue (BB or headset) I'm sure for a beer or two someone would do/show you how to do it.

  • right so i finally got round to taking everything off the frame with a little help. Took it to evans they said everything would be fine but would take a few months to get sorted. However i got a phone call yesterday and now because i didn't buy it from them (got it in a bike shop in NYC) they want me to pay the shipping which is £150 and then there is no guarantee that Bianchi will replace it.

Kind of fair enough i suppose but fucking annoying none the less. So the frame is only worth about £200 and they might not replace it at all.

  • £150 sounds a bit steep. How about calling up Bianchi yourself and seeing what they say?

  • Proof that this particular evans take the piss. Right there^. Seems like they just want £150. First it's £125 to strip the bike, now it's £150 to ship it.

Forget the bianchi, buy a 2nd hand fort or something.

  • I want to buy something new but was planning on selling the pista frame to fund it. I've tried to get hold of bianchi but no one answers calls or emails.

  • I've got a Genesis flyer 56cm full reynols tubing it's so nice to ride but it's a bit big for me so selling frame and forks(inc headset). there like new will be happy to email pics, only want £150.00

  • ^ thanks for the offer. I've got a Dolan I'm riding at the mo but I want to get back on steel.

I call bullshit on evans' part.

Just got off the phone with Bianchi's UK distributor, they said that all the customer or shop would have to pay for this situation would be shipping of the frame to the distributor (£20-30?), and even that is only because the initial transaction was not dealt through the UK distributor (having been purchased in the US - had this been purchased through a UK shop, it would be the onus of that shop to cover shipping). From there on out the distributor should handle all dealing/shipping between themselves and Bianchi.

  • Update.

First just want to say thanks to Hassan and the guys at Push cycles they sent the frame back to bianchi for me (without trying to rip me off to the tune of £150 like Evans)

Bianchi however have said that they will not honour the warranty as I have "defaced the frame with stickers."

If any of you have seen my bike it was neon orange tape on the main triangle to cover the bianchi decals and give me more visibility. Can't see anywhere in the warranty where this is mentioned and I'm fuming!

Push are trying to fight it and have told bianchi they may stop stocking their frames if this is their attitude.

Any advice on my next step. Apart from writing them a letter saying: vafonculo!

  • How bizarre. Will they really be able to find a passage in their warranty that justifies that?

  • Sounds like bullshit to me

  • That's ridiculous and unless in a contract somewhere, probably not allowed

  • that is mental! so if you had taken them off first they would have done it???

Tell them you've spoke to a journalist (me) who is interested in writing an article about your story. Because unless there's anything specifically in the frame guarantee about not using stickers on it this is bullshit. Especially if you can prove the stickers were there to give you and your bike better visibility to other road users.

PM me your details and I can knock a quick article together that you can then use to threaten Bianchi with publication online. Pointing out to them how many people will read it, how many sales they will potentially lose, and how much revenue they will potentially lose as a result. Big companies don't like this. It threatens their 'brand' and also shows them up to be arseholes if they behave like arseholes.

  • Yeah ! My full support on this - Don't give up...bump bump,
& please keep us informed :0

  • Couldn't you ask Bianchi themselves to removed the offending sticker?

  • Tell them you've spoke to a journalist (me

    who do you write for?
if you don't mind me asking
