  • I arrived at the scene not long after the incident. I was meeting someone to do a cycle training session, just as the police were removing evidence. Could not actually get to the front door of my trainee's house owing to the area being taped off. The officers I spoke to there were pretty tight lipped about what had occurred, but you could tell there had been a fatality. One PC did tell me a cyclist had died in an incident with a motor vehicle. Sad day. I read somewhere the cyclist was a Camden charity worker.

The policeman who told me a cyclist was dead said, in light of what had happened, that I should take care out there. Interesting... I replied I was a cycle instructor, and while there is always a safer way we can ride, his words were best used with motorists, who have the means to cause deadly harm in their hands. I think he saw my point, but still felt he thought the duty of safety was primarily on the cyclist.

    RIP.

  • So sad
    R.I.P

  • Poor bloke, RIP, people should watch where they're going.

  • Colleague at my work, his flatmate just about saw the accident. He was cycling too when this gentlemen overtook him, then a few minutes up the road he’s at the scene where the accident had just occurred. Might very easily have been him. Terrible news.

    RIP.

  • The cyclist has been named by the Police. Rest In Peace, Colin Hawkes

Driver was arrested on the scene, released on bail to return in May.

  • Awful news, RIP and condolences to the family.

    Please be careful out there.

  • Rest in peace Colin.

  • I went past there at about 8:40, it's less than half a mile from home on my way to work. There were already several police cars and an ambulance in attendance. Obviously concerned at the time there might have been a cyclist involved, but it's such an unassuming road I thought it unlikely. I noticed flowers at the scene on the way home, but couldn't find any news online yesterday evening.

    RIP
