  • Hello dear friends,

We are happy to announce you that Fabrice Houdry and myself Pierre-Adrien Dracon, known as Yaralt and Eugène in the Bikepolo scene and cycling environment (members of the Broken Legs team), are taking care of an exhibition called "TERRAIN DUR Bike Polo Show" (Hardcourt Bike Polo Show). I'll let you discover this project...

Pierre-Adrien is an editor and silkscreen printer for his publishing company "Eugène&Pauline". Fabrice Houdry is an Illustrator and curator.

We are working on a exhibition about the young history of Bike Polo and therefor we are asking every player over the world, to participate.

Hardcourt Bikepolo emerged from the United States more or less ten years ago, and for about 5 years in Europe. This urban sport, close to fix gears, quickly revealed a strong imagery. Graphic designers, Illustrators, photographs, film makers... often players them self, got a hold on of the different equipments and visuals to invest them and personalize them. Like many have seen in the Skateboarding universe, this new urban sport offers the same creativity and aesthetic freedoms.

This exhibition will reunite, we hope, a large representation of graphic productions that Bikepolo has brought up. That's why we solicit you, players, teams, tournament organizers, builders, to contribute for the luxuriousness and variety of this project.
We are interested in any kind of work: posters, publications, spokecards, flyers, stickers, teams and tournaments teeshirts, videos, pictures. Everything can have a graphic interest. Score boards, rules, original equipments, mallets, wheels covers, socks, tatoos...
Don't hesitate to give us informations on your teams, tournaments, ranking, pictures of your community, texts, notes and anecdotes. Everything can be sent to us and will become a first base of archive about Bikepolo.

For different reasons of cost and calendar, we would prefer original works. We could in certain exceptional cases, accept digital files. Technically, we can not take in charge shipping costs, and of course we will not return any elements because they'll become a base for the exhibition that will be traveling worldwide we hope. Of course we will not forget to send you pictures and informations on their journey. Your contribution/donation will be mentioned and respected as they should be.

All elements must be sent before the 28th of February 2011, since the exhibition is programmed in France a first time in Canteleu (Urban cultures festival) on the 13th of April 2011, then in le Havre in May / June / July for the festival Graphic season.

    Please send everything to:

    Yaralt studio
    39 rue Beauvoisine
    76000 Rouen
    France

Don't hesitate! We are all counting on your contribution.
Thank you and long life to Bikepolo!

    Eugène et Yaralt.

  • Are you getting paid for curating the show?

  • that's a good question. as i'm not the one organising this I can't answer correctly sorry !

  • Hi

We have a budget to work on the show. (construction, communication, organization ...)
Not large enough to accommodate the transportation ...

There coming to the English in Rouen for the Tournament Epiphanie Bike Polo Weekend, you can take the opportunity to give them a packet ...

  • Yorgo is lending is old polo bike (the trashy white one) for this. First Polo bike in Europe !

  • Are you getting paid for curating the show?

what is this question about? Not sure why would someone want to know that and why it would matter?

  • Yorgo is lending is old polo bike (the trashy white one) for this. First Polo bike in Europe !

    In France, not europe!

  • my mistake

  • of course treo would want to know if someone is getting paid. with the theory that the organiser should be paid last after all other concievable costs are accounted for, I suspect. Its really rather hard to justify imho, why this thought prevails. lots of people go into debt to help a community or project they love, its not something I agree with. It's fair that someone get their costs and time covered if they are doing something like this.

    • i suspect Treo wants to know because this would show some sort of "injustice" but I could be wrong, maybe Treo wants to help cover the costs!
  • I might send some Come Play Polo shirts, or was thinking of maybe doing a screen print of it?!?

  • It would be nice to get the polo prayer in there, but then I'm no designer. Anyone fancy making my words look pretty?

  • Screen print of the ball comeplaypolo design would be nice.

  • what is this question about? Not sure why would someone want to know that and why it would matter?

Easy boys, no need to put words in my mouth. I was merely asking for the sake of transparency.
The question itself seemed quite clear to me, not sure if you're looking for clarification our just taking a poke at me. I think it's a perfectly relevant question when someone is asking you send your original artwork, pay for shipping and not to expect ever to see your artwork again. In my experience it's just important to be clear and transparent with the moneyflow, when you expect people to work for free while you're getting paid yourself - you don't want to be the new Montana aye? This is especially relevant in a growing underground sport as bike polo, where big companies and other opportunists are bound to try to get a piece of the growing cake. It was nothing personal with Eugène and Yaralt, they probably did way more for bike polo than I did and I wish them the best of luck with the exhibition,

of course treo would want to know if someone is getting paid. with the theory that the organiser should be paid last after all other concievable costs are accounted for, I suspect. Your theory is not completely off, but not accurate either. I personally believe that if you expect others to sacrifice the time to create artwork, shipping costs and loss of artwork without any form of compensation, organizers should generally accept loss themselves.

"lots of people go into debt to help a community or project they love, its not something I agree with. It's fair that someone get their costs and time covered if they are doing something like this."

Exactly, but does this not count for the artists as well? I'm not saying the artists should be paid X amount of pounds for their artwork and that the organizers should accept a personal. But ideally (for me) the organizers should not put money in their own pockets without atleast helping with shipping costs.

Edit: I was just trying to make a general point, I don't know their budget and they are probably loosing money on it anyway, I just believe it's important to put all the cards out there.

  • i know you have lots of your films woods, but would you like a copy of 'polo manual' to play on a screen?

  • i would be really nice brendan !!! A come play polo shirt (or ball or design etc) would be ace too. For those who can't really afford to send it to France, maybe the easiest way would be to put everything in a box and see if gabes can take it in his car when he'll come for the Epiphanie next Week. Just an idea

  • ok man, i'll make sure one of the guys has a copy to bring.

  • @B: Brilliant !!

To all the people contributing to this : the aim is to collect everything that's relative to bike polo and its debute like flyers, spoke cards, anything. For the people who have designs of old tournaments for exemple (like 2on2 valentines 2009, EHBPC 2009, etc) you can send a digital version at terraindurbikepoloshow@guidoline.com and organisers will do with it.

The show is coming really quick, hope they will collect the most awesome stuffs from you guys !!

  • 1st Gen mallets? A few examples to show the evolution of the mallet will be nice :)

  • @treo, i'm not in disagreement. I guess i look at it that the artist is hoping to profit through either the sale of their work or by leveraging the exhibition for greater exposure.
    Transparency is good.

  • Our Polo
    Which art in London,
    Hallowed be thy game,
    Thy Championship come,
    Thy League be done,
In Hackney as it is in Peckham.
Give us this day our daily throw-in
And forgive us our missed passes,
As we forgive those who T-bone against us,
And lead us not into tap outs,
    And deliver us from punctures,
    For thine is the court,
The mallet and the disc wheel,
    Forever and ever,

    POLO!

  • Hey Woods.
I have the valentines file etc. I'll email a load over. I'll also give the screen prints a go as I have been wanting to do something on paper. Might be nicer than an old T.

Polo prayer could be nice in the LBP font I made. I will knock it up if the intellectual property owners agree. Toma? :)

  • I started messing around with the polo prayer when it first surfaced then completely forgot about it until seeing this. Don't know why but seeing the prayer written out like that reminded me of things my mum made when I was young with cross-stitch…

The text in Chukker's post is a little different (which I prefer) and it needs a bit of work - but as a start? Be rad if someone could actually do this in cross-stitch!

  • that's great, really appreciate it

  • that is ACE, Rob
